Dancing with the Stars, Spring 2010

Well, I’m thinking very heavy-duty bras, and lots of cheats like the female ice-skaters wear when they want something to look skimpy without any danger of slippage. Nevertheless, it’s going to be rather uncomfortable for Anderson.

I can’t imagine he has any trouble getting speaking engagements and corporate gigs, so he probably he has a pretty nice income. My guess is that he’s probably just a fan of the show and thought it would be a hoot to go on.
Anyway, want to guess how long it’ll be before somebody on the shows cracks a joke about him doing the moonwalk.

Miliseconds.

Who’s replacing Samantha Harris? Is it that Bachelorette?

I don’t care how he dances, it would be so awesome if Buzz Aldrin won.

This season’s ringer is the Pussycat Doll, don’t they do a lot of dance routines?

Combined with the fact that the Pussycat Doll is paired with Derek Hough, this makes it a real possibility that they will win over Lysacek, who is the obvious favorite.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up on Aldrin. He’s eighty years old.

I guess they figured they had to make it a little bit of a challenge for the Olympic athelete.

I know Buzz is old, that’s why I think it would be awesome. A lot of popular people last longer than they should, so I think it would be funny if the popularity factor got an 80 year old the top spot. Then again, astronauts probably aren’t as awesome to people nowadays as they were when I was a kid. Still I hope he isn’t one of the first few to go.

Whoops, duplicate post.

The star factor is pretty weak this season.

Evan Lysacek should have an edge with his figure skating experience. Coming off the Olympics he’s obviously in great shape.

Erin Andrews was on the Florida Gators’ basketball dance team from 1997-2000. Is she this seasons ringer? I do wonder about her conditioning. Ten years away from dancing is a long, long time.

It’s always fun to predict the early losers. Buzz Aldrin is nearly 80. I doubt he’ll make it very long. Kate Gosselin has no background in dance or theater. She’ll either be really good or horribly bad. Pam Anderson may get a black eye if she gets carried away.

I’m not familiar with most of the other stars. What’s your thoughts?

aceplace57 – we generally do just a single thread for the whole season, so I’ve merged your new thread into the existing thread.

What may do Evan Lysacek in is that he is, apparently, planning to tour with Stars on Ice Weds.-Sat. while also competing on DWTS (sorry, no cite – heard on Entertainment Tonight or something like that). I guess Anna will be doing a lot of traveling this season, wonder how she feels about that?

Anyway, I don’t see him being able to do both things at the same time, so predict he won’t make it more than halfway through the season.

Shannen Doherty said in interviews that she is doing DWTS for her dad. He’s recovering from a stroke.

I’ve not been a fan of Shannen, but I hope she does well on DWTS.

From the Stars on Ice website:

The calendar shows him appearing three times a week for the months of April and May, usually Thursday-Friday-Saturday but occasionally Wednesday-Friday-Saturday.

I agree that this may make it impossible for him to do well in DwtS.

He’s an Olympic gold medalist whom people like Scott Hamilton described as the hardest working skater in the business, and his sport is a lot like dancing. I’m guessing he’ll do just fine.

I’m looking forward to the beginning tonight.

Looking back to the past, the most memorable dance of last season, Derek and Joanna’s futuristic Paso, did it occur to anyone else that this dance would have made an equally good entry for an 80’s Paso? Music, costumes, dance style - all would have worked perfectly for the 80’s glam/Euro trash scene. In fact, pretty much all glam rock clothing reached either to the past (eighteenth century in particular) or the future for inspiration.

Oh well, I thought it was kind of interesting. But then, I don’t live a very exciting life…

Whoa, Buzz Aldrin was just very, very sad.

Please, people, let him go home in peace. Now.

Buzz was very hard to watch.

Ugh, why did the leave Pamela Anderson till last? I have come to expect one of the best performances of the night as the last dance, and this totally wasn’t.

Actually, I was surprised at how good Anderson was. I expected her to be completely lame.

Looks like a lack-luster season. The two expected very good pairs, Buzz Aldrin of course dreadful, but such a hero that he’ll hang around for a while, especially since he gets points for simply not dying on the air, and Kate fortunately very lame. The only other standout in a bad way was the soap star Aiden, and he has some potential, so I think he’ll stick around for a bit. Hopefully Gosselin will go home first, but usually there are four or five couples who are just dreadful, and this time there are only the two.

That’s good, because there will only be the two pairs who are outright painful to watch, but there are no real standouts among the rest except Evan and Nicole, so the season looks to be kinda dull.

I couldn’t watch Kate Gosselin because she turns my stomach. She can’t go soon enough. Pamela did nothing for me. Derek was his usual great coach/choreographer. Tonight was a whole bunch of blah.

Not a fan of Brooke Burke.

I didn’t think she was bad, just not as good as the Pussycat or Evan (who needs to do a better job of fending off the guy with the spray tan wand).

Brooke is no worse than Samantha Harris, who is a nincompoop who I’m glad to see the last of. I think Brooke has the potential to improve, and at least she knows something about ballroom dance.
