I LOLed when Bruno said Tony pushed Kate around like a shopping cart. Too perfect.
I agree–Buzz was hard to watch. I get the whole “inspire people” thing, but what about dignity? I would rather remember him walking on the moon than dancing on TV.

Don’t care much for Brooke Burke either, but pretty much all she’s gotta do is hold the mike up to people’s faces and ask the audience to phone in. Not exactly the linchpin of the show. For some reason I thought what’s her name who had been on the Batchelor and competed a couple seasons ago was going to replace Harris. Evidently I was in error.
It’s pretty easy to snicker at the low wattage of the ‘stars’ this time around, but the producers seem to have gotten a selection of people with some potential to closely compete by mid-season. No real kids this time, either, eh?
Working up from the bottom, Buzz Aldrin was every bit as horrible as I thought he was going to be and I would really really really like to unsee tonight’s doddering performance. I never paid any attention to Kate Gosselin before, so I don’t have the instinctual hatred that a lot of folks seem to have, but she clearly is below most of the others in ability and, well, anything resembling charisma.
I’ve come to realize that Edyta just doesn’t seem to know how to play to her partner’s strengths, so after watching her yet again dance around a guy doing an imitation of a lamppost, I doubt Aiden is going to get very far. Too bad, I like his sardonic attitude. Can’t peg Niecy right now; she may get past halfway or she could flame out immediately; don’t know. OTOH, I’ll take a flyer on 85, Shannen and la Anderson getting most of the way through the season.
Erin, Nicole and Evan seem to be the closest to ringers, but they all are still pretty rough. I agreed with Len on Nicole’s waltz; 9s for that were way out of line. Batchelor guy seemed a bit over-rated by the judges as well.
Ugh! Buzz Aldrin needs to go. He is so full of himself. And he and his wife are so full of Restylane and Botox, they won’t need embalming!
I think Buzz would have been less painful to watch with a better costume. Who picks those, anyway?
If he picked it himself, then I take it back.
Pam Baywatch was better than I expected! Evan Lysacek not as good as I thought he’d be.
The dancers were pretty obvious.
I also thought that Kate looked like she was being pushed around the floor like a shopping cart!
I never vote on these, but I thought some of the scores didn’t seem to reflect the talent at all. They didn’t even seem to reflect what the judges had said.
I wasn’t happy with Pam’s performance. This is a family show. Her bump and grind was out of place.
The lady from the Pussycat group was a surprise. She’s going to be a serious threat.
She’s not the best dancer, but she sold it.
I expected better from the ice skater, he had some weird line things going on with his legs & feet.
It was a fake punch
Kate -8 was like watching an 8 yr old’s recital after being taught by a salamander.
Salamanders are not known for dancing ability, keep up.
Buzz was having fun, but that was about it.
Pam was horrible! And quite possibly under the influence of something, but I think that every time someone asks her to speak. (Ruff! Ruff!)
Brooke’s boobies were nice. I’m glad ABC hired them.
But Brooke reminds me of Sarah Palin, and for that I can’t forgive her. If someone comes up with some evidence that she’s politically not to the right wing of Rush Limbaugh, I might like her better because I could think of her as a separate entity. For now, since I know nothing of her politics, I can’t split her off from Palin in my head. She’s guilty until proven innocent. I recognize that this is utterly irrational, but then, this is a thread about DwtS; if I were rational, I probably wouldn’t be watching.
I too thought Pam looked like she was on something. I remember thinking at one point, “I wonder if they left her last to give her a chance to sober up?” She was better than I expected - but the thing I found fascinating (like a car crash fascinating) was the way she went from looking old and ridden hard to sultry to old and puffy. It was such a weird thing.
Did anyone else think that with Shannen’s hair and outfit, she looked a little like Betty Rubble? It was very surreal for me. She lacks grace, but she made me cry with her comments about her dad.
I missed Buzz Aldrin’s performance (I am still unpacking from my move) but sounds like that was a good thing. Will probably hulu tonight to see what was missing.
I liked Niecy - want her to do well. Kate Gosselin can’t go home fast enough for me. That Erin from ESPN - her outfit reminded me too much of the girl that danced with Derek Hough last year.
I thought Evan was charming. But I think Ochocinco is one to watch. He could really be something.
I think Evan has huge potential - he had the best ballroom technique on the show last night. I’m curious to see how he will handle the latin dances, though - could be good, could be a disaster. I expect the Pussycat Doll to be better at latin than standard. I like Ochocinco, too - he also has definite potential.
Louis’ face when Niecy said she didn’t want to lose her jiggly bits was precious.
Pamela is apparently a method actress, and keeps to character as long as the camera is on her, not just during the dance. Frankly, it doesn’t do much for me, but I can at least respect what she’s trying to do. Thus borderline porno star last week and Marilyn Monroe this week. But it was the same number that Karina and Mario Lopez did so wonderfully back in Season 3, so it was kind of ruined for me.
I thought Evan was wonderful this week, and it makes me wonder if the producers are urging the judges to keep his scores down in order to prevent his running away with it this season. I didn’t get all the love for the Pussycat’s jive; technically it was great, but there seemed to me to be no connection either with the audience or each other - unusual in a Derek-choreographed dance. But damn, she could do shampoo ads; her hair is beautiful!
Ochocinco looked dreadful this week - Latin seems to work better for him. I think he’s got potential, so I hope he hangs in there. I dislike the Bachelor almost as much as Kate Gosselin, but not quite. Aidan just doesn’t get it at all. Shannon is mediocre (and looks surprisingly old). Buzz was terrible, but again, gets points for living through the performance. I’ve never seen a star who managed to make his pro look as bad as he made Ashley look. I don’t know if that’s a reflection on him or her. Kate looked almost as bad as Aldrin, without the excuse of being eighty years old. But you sure can tell she’s used to being on a reality show, with her emoting to the camera during the rehearsal footage. Yuck.
Who knew Niecy could foxtrot? That was amazing!
Kate was just horrible (and, producers, would you please go back to ending the show with one of the best routines? thanks). Hope she goes home soon, though Buzz most go first because he’s 80 and we really don’t want him croaking on stage. (Agree on his ability to suck competence out of his partner like some kind of terpsichorean vampire.)
Pleasantly surprised by Niecy, whom I’ve always found annoying as all hell (to my shame, I often leave The Insider on for lack of alternatives at 7:30).
Looks like Evan and the Pussycat Doll are going to be the two main competitors this season, as predicted before the season started.
Aldrin will last at least through the first elimination, and probably through several, not because he dances well, but because so many of us still remember July 16, 1969. But he is probably the single worst dancer I’ve seen on the show, and that includes Cloris Leachman, who had a couple of years on him.
Terpsichorean? I had to look it up, thinking it had something to do with turtles! What a perfect word, twicky!
Goodbye Buzz, goodbye Kate…
Boy, Kate is horrible. And I say this as somebody who knew nothing about her before this turn on DWtS.
But a lot of people were horrible this week.
Oddly enough, I gave the same scores as Len on everybody except Buzz (I gave him a 5, he could have been looser–he was in the rehearsal) and Evan (I gave him a 9, he was great, what’s the deal here?)
Boy, the gap between the bottom and the others is huge. I’m not sure who needs to go first. I’d probably pick Kate because I’m sentimental about Buzz. The guy was a fighter pilot in Korea and an astronaut. Let him enjoy himself before getting eliminated.
Ochocinco was just terrible. He’s so darn stiff. I don’t see him lasting long. He reminds me of the football player last season. He didn’t get very far either.
Erin Andrews has talent and a bad temper. Her impatience is making it difficult for Maksim to train her. I hope Erin chills out. I’d like to see someone challenge Nicole Scherzinger.
I have to agree with this article. Casting Nicole Scherzinger was a mistake. There’s really no competition this season. She’s obviously a pro and way ahead of everyone else. Right now she’s blowing everyone away. I don’t see that changing. Especially since Lysacek starts his Stars on Ice tour in a few days.

What’s going to hurt Nicole is her lack of vulnerability. This week we saw breakdowns right and left from the tension in rehersals, but Nicole seemed right at home, picking up the steps with not problem, and then gets 10’s on week 2. As we’ve seen in the past, people that are TOO good don’t tend to get voted for. As good as Brooke and Mia were we still saw their struggles and frustrations, Brooke moreso than Mia with is probably why Mia didn’t win.
Erin has a better shot, good with excellent chance of improving dramatically. Nicey is so fun to watch and Evan also seems more vulnerable and having to struggle with some of the moves and pointing toes. But he made a great improvement from last week.
Pamela can dance, but I agree with Oi! don’t like that she stays in character after the dance is over. She will have to take off the mask and let us see the real Pam underneath if she wants the votes.
I am so biased against Kate Gosselin that I am immaturely glad that she did so badly. And I do mean bad. No sense of rhythm at all, and she got completely lost on the footwork a few seconds after the routine started. I thought her “5” scores were gifts because at least Buzz knows what he’s supposed to do. I think it’s clear that Tony dislikes her so it’s a combination that was never going to work even had she a smidgeon of talent, which she doesn’t.
I thought Chad did fine last week, but this week he was nervous and stiff and just uncomfortable. It was really good to see him wince at the judge’s reaction because he needs some humility. Though I give him points for really trying.
Loved the Jive with Derek and the Pussycat girl who has obviously had dance training before. Very few people have the stamina to keep up the kind of pace they did.
Buzz’s routine would have been cute for a couple’s 50th anniversary but not so good during a dancing competition.
Pamela staying in character during the interview makes me uncomfortable. Her comment that everyone had seen all her sides already was funny, though. Of course, I’m the one person in America who HASN’T seen her and Tommy Lee getting it on.
Erin lacks grace, IMO. She didn’t follow through with the arm or leg extensions. She did fine but seems like a dance-by-number routine instead of dancing while feeling the music. I read in “People” this week that she and Maks are dating which explains the constant ribbing.
I didn’t see anyone before Buzz dance so I can’t comment on those.
I meant to mention, Brooke is really, really bad. I wouldn’t have thought her job was terribly difficult, but she kept making unanswerable comments and repeatedly shoved a microphone into the faces of dancers who had nothing to say. How rude was it to put Derek on the spot by asking whether he liked Nicole or herself better?
