Dandelion Wine, Anybody Ever Make It Or Taste It?

And yeah, I know, its a great book too, but I’m interested in how the stuff tastes. If its hard to make, etc., etc.

Everything bigger & better in Texas, Tuck! Except the Bush family! :stuck_out_tongue:

Enjoy!

I’ve got a bottle of it sitting not twenty feet from me. A local winery makes all sorts of non-grape wines.

Dandelion is OK, it doesn’t do as much for me as Raspberry or Blueberry. It’s a very light wine, if you know what I mean.

You’re entering folklore.
By that I mean you’ll run up with regional differences. The region could well include Australia, by the way.
I recall seeing a recipe in Yankee Magazine, but that version may have called for raisins.

My next door neighbor of about seven-years ago made some… I dunno if it was typical, but it was vile. Not something I can imagine anyone getting all weepy & nostalgic over, a la Bradbury.

What’s more, it was as much of a diuretic as Culpepper made infusions of dandelion leaf & root to be.

But it provided a nice little buzz on a hot day, if that’s what you’re after.

I don’t have any trouble imagining Bradbury getting weepy and nostalgic over anything, it was pretty much his number one trait, aside from his hatred for science.

My father used to make all kinds of wines, including dandelion. I don’t remember it as being anything special, but I do remember that you mustn’t get any of the green part of the flower in the brew or it will taste terrible.
Actually, making your own wine is kinda fun, if you have a lot of patience. My Dad made some ginger wine that was better than anything I’ve ever bought at a winery. Unfortunately he’s gone now, and so are his recipes, or I’d try it myself.
Anyway, give it a try. You’ll probably enjoy it.

Great book? And here, I thought it was a great song.

Dandelion wine will make you remember
The first days of spring in the middle of December…

But no, I’ve never tried any, although the rest of my family, who has, assures me it’s excellent.
