Dandy Warhols - Odditorium or Warlords of Mars

So last night, like every Tuesday night, I was scrolling thought the new releases on iTunes.

“Crap… crap… junk… worse than crap… lame… Dandy Warhols… crap… garb… WAIT A SECOND!!!”

OMG it’s a brand new record from those damn Dandy Warhols! I hadn’t been paying attention, so I didn’t even know it was coming. So, of course, I snapped it up and have been listening to it since then.

Anyone else grab it? I’m digging it so far, and I expect (like all their stuff) it’ll grow on me over the course of the week.

My thoughts? This is definitely a Dandy Warhols album. I would think the hardcore fans will be enjoying this one. It has all the requirements: over the top confidence (or arrogance) right from the intro, awesome music, and some definite experimentation, like the song that’s just a minute of dogs barking with a bizarre chorus fading in and out. They also of course have the traditional few songs that last about 4 minutes longer than they should.

Standouts: Love is the New Feel Awful, All the Money or the Simple Life Honey, Smoke It.

Favorite track: Holding Me Up (this is the kind of sound I like best from the Dandys).

Not quite as good, IMO, as their past two albums, but definitely a must buy. Anyone else have any thoughts? I hope this doesn’t sink to the bottom like my Aimee Mann threads. Poor Aimee. :frowning:

Wow, it seems like Welcome to the Monkey House just came out. I didn’t realize that they had a new album coming, but I’ll pick it up for sure.

Yeah that’s why I wasn’t expecting it. You grab it yet? Whatcha think?

My new favorite is “All The Money Or The Simple Life Honey.” I think I’ve listened to it 50 times already.

I used to have one Dandy Warhols record…I think it was ‘The Dandy Warhols Come Down’ or something…it had ‘Not if You Were the Last Junkie on Earth.’ I really liked that song but the rest of that album was absolutely terrible.
Have they been getting better, or should I avoid them still?

I realize that music, like all art, is subjective, but I have to say that the Dandys have not ever written a bad song. If you think that Every Day Should Be A Holiday, Good Morning, Cool As Kim Deal and Hard On For Jesus are terrible you probably should stay away - or at least re-listen to the album.

I think their sound has evolved quite a bit since then, but I agree with adam yax. If you hated Come Down that much, I doubt the new stuff will win you over.

Anything is possible, though. Have you heard anything from Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia? Check out “Bohemian Like You” and “Solid” and see what you think.

Then, after you find yourself addicted, pick up Welcome to the Monkey House and Odditorium.

I just picked up the album on Saturday. I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet, but I like what I’ve heard so far (first 4 or 5 songs). I really liked the intro with Bill Curtis.
The music, so far, seems to be more like the pre ‘13 Tales’ albums.
