Reuters | Breaking International News & Views Does this do it.? Will the criticism stop now?
She won the Indy Car race in Japan . She is a winner.
I don’t know, it seems she lucked out more with fuel than won by skillful driving- kind of like winning when the two people ahead of you crash on the last lap.
A win is a win for me in this case. I’m not an Indy fanatic, but would this be considered “lucking out”? Isn’t pitting and fuel management part of the race strategy? It all seems rather legitimate to me.
Great, just great…Next they’ll be wantin’ to be president er something.
It’s like winning an Academy award; nobody remembers the particulars. All that matters is that you’re now a winner.
Danica is now a winner.
This makes no sense. Drivers win races all the time because of mismanagment by other teams. Does anyone say they “lucked out”?
Some people cannot resist the urge to piss all over someone else’s hard-won victory.
No kidding. “Lucked out” by employing superior fuel strategy? What the fuck?
As if drivers don’t win that way every. single. week.
Fuel strategy is a perfectly fair and acceptable way to win. And they’ve already enacted the equal weight rule, so her car was weighted down so that it weighed the same as all the other drivers.
I see no issues here. Except for the sour grapes from some men who cannot accept the fact that some women can drive circles around them.
Heh.
I heard the only reason she won is because she threw up before the race.
SI attributes her win in part to her fuel strategy:
I’m not a racing fan, but I would imagine fuel management is part of what it takes to win. She did it (and a bunch of other stuff), and she won.
No, it was definitely the crying.
As a lover of golden showers, I would have no problem with Ms. Patrick pissing all over my hard won.
Really, it is all a woman is good for. That and crapping out babies. This was total luck. Just like Emily Dickinson’s poetry - total luck.
What men, exactly? I haven’t heard a single disparaging comment, and would be interested in seeing any quotes you’ve read.
Unless you’re just assuming that of course somebody must be bitter. If that’s the case, shame on you.
How about this:
It’s a legit win, but at this point, until she make a habit of winning, its no different than so no-name winning a given golf tournament- not automatically a sign of great things to come. Especially since they’re down to about five very good drivers now with Franchitti gone, and yes, she is one of them, sure.
Oh, I didn’t realize you were talking about posters in this thread. I thought you meant her fellow drivers.
Apologies, and agreed.
Being able to put that ballast where it does the most good for car balance etc. still gives lighter drivers an advantage. But then, superior engineering and manufacturing work (even within the tight limits of a spec-built IRL chassis) and superior pit work, not to mention superior sponsor-schmoozing and fundraising, are all part of winning races too. Any win is a team win, including all the above elements, but the driver is by far the most important member.
She won, and in the same way every other winning driver wins, even the ones who don’t do topless photo spreads in Sports Illustrated. Congrats!
Sure - they say it all the time. Doesn’t change the fact that she won, though.
I am not sure how far we can go in this forum, but your posts in this thread are not showing you in a good light. She won a race, no one proclaimed her the best driver or even a great driver, but damn it a youngish woman won against her male counterparts. Great for her.
Where did anyone in this thread or the Op’s article claim she is top five? I think you just moved the bar higher for her.
