Are you that afraid of change? You aren’t even racing this year, you fucking pussy. She’s proven herself on the track in Europe and she qualified 4th for the Indy 500. She probably would have gotten the pole except for that little error correction mistake in turn one.
Why not have a rule that all drivers must weigh exactly the same. What a bunch of losers.
Yeh. Funny how their macho little world has gotten along just fine with drivers of varying wieghts, no big deal. But let one little woman invade their territory…
Gordon is a coward, a chauvinist pig, and a liar; this has nothing to do with her weight, and he knows it. Had a 105-pound former jockey qualified for the Indy 500 he’d have said nothing. He’s complaining solely because she’s a woman.
Why haven’t they argues about this before? This is a key part of horse racing. If it’s such a key in car racing, surely it would’ve been addressed before now. Or is she the first slightly-built racer to ever compete at all ever in teh history of the sport?
Last week’s NASCAR race at Charlotte was won by Mark Martin, who is short and wiry and probably doesn’t weigh over 130 pounds, if that much. No one complained about his having an unfair advantage, although if someone were to complain, Robbie would be the one.
Gentlemen, the sport is expanding and is no longer the reserve of white southern men. Non-Southerners have been doing well in NASCAR, and there may well be room for, uh, girlsImeanwomen, and maybe even for…whisper it…neeeegroes. Wow. Can you imagine a Black female driver ftom Canada?
That whirring noise is Bill France rotating rapidly in his grave.
Well unless she was winning every race she was in I don’t think we’d need to worry about it. If something like extreme difference in weight was giving someone such a huge advantage it meant they were effortlessly winning every race or most races then I’d consider it significant, if not, deal with it.
It’s not like these drivers don’t try to cheat constantly anyways.
I know nothing about racing but, looking through the current Indy car standings I find that Danica only holds about a 50-60 lbs. advantage on the average driver (just looking through the top 30 most of them were 150-165 lbs.) so a 100 lbs. difference would be atypical.
And through 4 Indy starts she’s had 2 top 10 finishes and 0 career wins. So it’s not like any natural advantage she’s having is making her a phenom.
You know what the officials need to do? Come back and admit to Gordon that he’s correct, it isn’t fair and insist that all drivers over 150 lbs. crash diet until the difference is negligible.
Why do most drivers weigh 150? Truthfully? Endurance, I think. You need a bit of muscle to hang on to being jostled that long. This does remind me of one of my favorite ‘what the heck’ moments in autoracing. So, there I am, at a show, and a gentleman I know, sort of, explains at length about how he saved fifteen pounds on his Vette by finding this three grand carbon fiber hood.
I look at him… and he weighs around three hundred. And I say nothin.
Does Robby Gordon also think that drivers with faster reflexes have an unfair advantage? How about drivers with better peripheral vision? Should the IRL equalize for these thngs too?
I’m a big guy and when some itty bitty guy on a go fast wants to race me with his ‘hot’ bike, I just say, “Ok, but we swap bikes since yours is so fast.”
No one wants to weight up their bikes to my ramp weight and then race. snerk
It can be about the engine, the driver, the tires, the weight but you can’t race all things evenly in the same race. Specially when $$$$$$$ are in the game. That is why there is class racing … and then there is the big TV & $$$$$$$ racing.
And if having more weight IS an advantage in some way, then so be it. If she can’t win because she’s not big enough that’s tough shit, and if she kicks Robby Gordon’s ass because he’s too fat, well, that’s tough shit, too.
If car racing’s a sport, Robby my man, you’d best learn to accept that in sports, physical advantages count.
I saw Gordon on SportsCenter, and he never used the word “unfair”, he just said it was an advantage. He pointed out that NASCAR includes the driver’s weight with the car’s weight and he thinks IRL should do the same. One article I read estimated a 1 mph increase because of 100 less pounds. I think people are making too much of this.
