Daniel Craig told to "Shut Up" & stop bashing Bond films.

More famous to most Americans I would think. Andrews was in Lost and The English Patient. Was Elba’s show even on in the States?

There’s this crazy thing the kids these days are calling “Wikipedia”: Idris Elba - Wikipedia

Yeah I looked it up after but thanks for the tip.

I’ve never watched a minute of either. I know who Idris Elba is because: 1) He played Heimdall, and 2) Jemele Hill has a crush on him.

He had a prominent role in The Wire, and has been in a ton of movies and TV shows lately. Plus he has an unusual name, which probably helps audience recognition.

Agree he’d make a great Bond, but I suspect he’ll be too old by the time they get around to casting a new actor. Especially since they presumably cast someone with the idea of having them spend a decade or so making new installments if their first go at it is successful.

Yeah ok, but Lost was an incredibly popular and much talked about show. I definitely think he’s the more recognizable of the two to most even if not to you.

I don’t know that I’d concede that Lost was more popular that The Wire, but whatever. I’ve never seen an episode of The Wire, either, but I’ve heard of Stringer Bell.

But, fair enough: he was on a popular show, that I’ve never watched, and I’ve never seen any of his movies. I don’t know who stars on Game of Thrones, either.

The Wire was a way better show but it was indisputably less popular. Less awards and poorer Neilson ratings.

I think that’s an incredibly strange opinion, tbh. I can place both of them, but I’d wage Elba is by far the more well known. The Thor movies, Prometheus, even Mandela. Yeah, Naveen Andrews was in The English Patient in 1996 and the show Lost, but I still think Elba’s got him beat (I wouldn’t have even though Naveen Andrews would be in a conversation with Elba as to recognizability).

Anyways, I don’t see what’s wrong with Daniel Craig’s comments. He just finished a grueling shoot for the movie and wants to take a break. So? Why is that a capital offense? Is he your monkey (to paraphrase Jon Stewart)?

This is clearly unscientific, so take it for whatever you think it’s worth, but an internet search pulls down roughly seven times as many hits for Idris Elba as for Naveen Andrews. Their respective IMDb pages also suggest that Elba has more than double the acting credits, and appears to have many more ‘leading’ roles.

Andrews was just on shitloads of magazine covers and a main star on the most talked about show of it’s time. Elba was on a the Wire which has a massive cult following. I am not surprised he gets more internet hits, but most of his acting credits are for small parts on UK shows. Yes, Andrews had a ton of small parts too, but he had a big break role. Well, there’s no real point arguing this though I guess.

I don’t think that you and I read the same kind of magazines; I see Elba on magazine covers all the damned time.

Okay, how about this: Idris Elba is probably much more popular among American black people than Naveen Andrews. Is that an acceptable disclaimer for you?

Time for a black Bond.

Story is a tempest in a teapot. Craig only expected to make a few of the films and he was in two of the best in *Casino Royale *and Skyfall (and if *Spectre *is good, he will have the best record of great Bond movies). If he grouses a bit in doing sometimes painful or uncomfortable work (that knee thing wasn’t the first time he’s been injured in a Bond shoot), let him.

I’ll miss him as Bond; he’s been so good that I’d put even *Quantum of Solace *ahead of most of the pack.

Well if they are aiming to capture the black America Bond film going market, sure I guess. There’s a lot more Asian British folks than black ones, so if diversity is the goal Naveen seems more appropriate.

Googling now I see that it is apparently de rigueur to bring up Idris in every online Bond discussion. Can’t fight that wave so I’ll just bow out.

Also the man can wear the *shit * out of a suit.

I mean, seriously. I’d want that suit, but there’s no way I could do that kind of justice to it. With a pink fucking turtleneck as a handicap.

Don’t know if the proper word for this is envy, but I’ll try to explain it:

Craig is raking in big bucks and big celebrity status being the action star in an “A” list title/series. There are lots of people who dream of being a rich and famous movie star, and additionally, a lot of people would like to be a tough badass action hero (and I think movies give people a way to imagine themselves in that kind of a role).

Craig won that one in a million chance to be what a lot of people dream of being, so when Craig seems to appear unwilling or dismissive of the role/job that continues to make him rich & famous, a lot of people don’t understand. The fans like him in that role. The fans want him in that role.

It’s entirely plausible that Craig, as an acting artiste, wants to do more challenging or fulfilling roles. I get that. I don’t think he’s a “one hit wonder”, but a lot of people are going to feel that (the figurative) “you” shouldn’t give up on a good thing. Ride that puppy for all it’s worth!

Manspreading!

snipping mine

He’s the douchebag from the Office that made Michael quit and form the Michael Scott Paper Company. Also he was pretty dickish to Jim. The only reason anyone wants him to be Bond is because they want a black Bond.
