Daniel Schorr, RIP.

NPR Senior News Analyst dead at 93

I was a fan.

:frowning: Very sad, though I had no idea he was so old. He certainly had a great run.

Damn, 93 … he was born during WWI. Wow.

Also a fan. I hope I’m that sharp when I’m 93.

Oh, too bad. I always enjoyed his chats with Scott Simon on Weekend Edition. I suspect Scott will offer a heartfelt tribute tomorrow morning.

I appreciated his commentaries. Thank you for point out his passing; he will be missed.

NPR will be different now.

I can’t think of a better epitaph for a journalist than Schorr’s honored position on Nixon’s enemies list…

Dang, he was a titan to me.

Even though his 94th birthday was in another month, this news still came as a surprise. I heard him on NPR a little over a week ago.
:frowning:

:frowning: His insightful commentaries on weekends have been a part of my life as long as I can remember. Very sad. RIP.

And still sharp as a tack! The WP article said his last broadcast was 7-10-10.

Oh man that sucks. There will be a little hole in my Saturday mornings now where Dan Schorr used to be.

Ditto. I will miss him on my radio.

Living well (into your 90s) is the best revenge.

I heard about this only a little while ago. The NPR newscaster talked for at least 15 seconds before saying who had died, but as soon as she began, I knew she meant Mr. Schorr. I was sad long before my deduction was confirmed.

:frowning:

Different, and less. I can’t imagine any way to replace his decades of experience and wisdom.

I hope I am that sharp when I am 60 — hey wait, I am 62.

He was something else. As a journalist in day of “on air personalities,” there are few I respect…I respected Schoor…really respected him.

The first time I encountered him was in 1970. He was lecturing at my university. I was laboring away at my college’s daily newspaper. He came in, looked around trying not to get in the way of the insanity that was then at the center of a daily newspaper and then said, “I love being in a newsroom,” nodded and walked out. I went to his lecture that evening, and I still remember much of what he said. I have bumped into him a handful of times throughout the years since then and I was always impressed.

I have at least one of his books. His writing always spoke to me. I look forward to Simon’s commentary on Saturday morning on NPR. I always got the feeling they were especially close.

TV

I always took Dan Schorr’s opinion seriously. Although I usually agreed with his analyses, when I didn’t I still listened carefully to him. Very few people of that stature to me. That man saw a lot of history, much of it up close as it happened.
