I’ve said several times before, I’m Jewish. I am also related to several Holocaust survivors. And I resent the hell out of your snide insinuation. I would never stoop to marginalize the Holocaust the way you did above.
I suspect you’re not so stupid that you can’t distinguish between an example of the possible range of discussions and a comparison between two viewpoints, and the only other alternative is that you believe that by insinuating that I’m either anti-Semitic or anti-Christian you can distract people from your McCarthy-esque tactics.

Looks like an honest misunderstanding to me. I think Daniel’s point was just because no one (around) believes something doesn’t mean it isn’t true. You interpreted this as meaning you can’t debate anything unless there are people willing to defend an opposing position – and by extention you can’t say anything in particular is true just because no one shows up to refute the idea. A topic that can’t be debated can’t be decided – somewhat different from what DITWD seemed to have been trying to get across, and you must admit you used an ad hitlorem arguement to make your point. Daniel thought you were saying anything anyone says is true is true automatically just because there is no one available to point out the flaws in the argument – thus anything can be asserted as true and the beliefs of those who disagree and aren’t represented, true or not, are co-equally idiotic.
I’m tired and on the run, but I think that’s the gist. Then you got mad because you thought he was saying you were trying to say anyone who holds an unpopular belief – true or not – is an evil person, thus misconstruing your argument in a way that seemed to be malicious and, perhaps unwisely, insulting to your character. It would be a valid response were you to understand his position.
Jmullany has it mostly right. You guys were just argueing amoung each other about how illogical creationists were. And, despite the fact that I have taken my share of swipes at Creationism, myself- it was getting way too one sided & unfair. I apologize if I pissed you off about the nazi reference. True, Gaudere is so very violently atheist, that anyone making any sort of arguement based on facts that is pro Bible makes her incoherant with rage. But at best that is two of the biggest attackers of faith on this board attacking me becuase I defend it. Being ridiculed by those sort is more of a badge of honor than a mark of shame.

Daniel, why, if Gaudere is so violently anti-Christian, is she held in incredibly high regard by many of the devout Christians on the board? Why is it that, for example, it was her genuine goodness that caused Libertarian to rethink his opinions on atheists? If there is a shining example of a very opinionated atheist who is open to rational debate on matters of faith, it is Gaudere, to judge by the opinions of her that others have posted.
Really, it’s pretty much you and Ph------ that have these delusions about her, putting you in pretty bad company.
As for Ben, I really don’t know him, but calling him a Nazi is just one of those things that only reflects badly on the one saying it.
Also, there have been, I believe, one or two other Pit threads about you; I can find them if you’d like.
If this occurs, or perhaps even if it does not, you may wish to clarify what “line” was gone “way over” with the particular remarks cited. IOW, what distinguishes them from the numerous other offensive and obnoxious remarks that are regularly posted in this particular forum? Or is it a matter of who says them? Or which viewpoint is being represented? Some clarification is in order.

No incident is isolated, dear. The whole world is a web of precedents. As a “moderator” your role is to moderate. Not just when you feel like it, but all of the time. If things are so slow at IMHO that you need to play moderator in The Pit, maybe you should find another hobby. And if Nazi baiting is bannable here, then it should be in all of the forums. Rules cannot be enforced arbitrarily without losing all meaning, and throwing your weight around like you did here does not reflect well on you.
