Personally, I think you’re reaching. But what do I know?
I totally disagree. Designing yours series to contrast with someone else’s series is not a recipe for success. They should have and did tell the story they wanted to tell.
Possibly, but if these Netflix Marvel series are successful, I’ll bet the next batch includes Moon Knight (and hopefully Master of Kung Fu!).
Funny you should say that. One of the things that struck me about Daredevil’s portrayal is how brutal he is. More so that he has been portrayed in the comics. I remember thinking that the way Netflix Daredevil metes out justice is more akin to the modus operandi of Moon Knight. And given that both DD and MK both owe to that Batman DNA, it seems like the producers would have to work hard to find a unique selling proposition that isn’t already spoken for my Batman, Green Arrow, and Daredevil.
Depending on where they go with Iron Fist, I’m also tentative about Shang Chi — unless that character is actually a part of the Iron Fist cast.
I just finished watching episode 11 and HOLY SHIT! I did NOT see that coming!
Wait until 12!
What, nod to moonknight? I missed it. Which episode?
Oh, the white hood. Didn’t think MK. Love this version of DD though
I’m going to spoil myself every so slightly, even though I’m only 2 episodes in.
You can just tell me. Does he wear the red suit for a few episodes, or…does it come in at the end? After 2, I feel like he’s going to be in the black outfit the whole time. I saw the final episode is called “Daredevil”, so I wonder if this whole season is an origin story of sorts.
Note: If you feel the suit is a massive spoiler, please feel free to avoid answering.
He’s only shows up in the red suit during the last 20 minutes or so of the series, looking snazzy for his big climax.
So, they only make vague allusions to it, but am I to understand that this is in continuity with the Avengers movie? The destruction they talked about was that alien attack? It didn’t make sense that they talked as though the heroes had caused it. They mitigated it as much as possible, but it didn’t happen because there were Avengers.
Otherwise, one episode in I’m pretty excited. They don’t go into the details of the superpowers, but I always thought that the original “got hit in the head with a radioactive truck part” was kind of phoning it in, as we say in the modern parlance.
So far, this Daredevil doesn’t seem to be pill popping like the Ben Aflec Daredevil, but I don’t see why. He takes some major ass whipping even when he wins. Of course, Spider-man generally does in the comics, but he has super endurance. Murdock just works out.
Just finished watching the last episode and I thought it was pretty damn good. Just for practical reasons I think it would have been better to keep his outfit black but I understand that for story reasons it was necessary. Like someone else mentioned, I thought the beatings Matt took and was active after were unrealistic, but in the end it’s still a comic book movie. Also, I guess he has some ancient ninja magic meditation tricks.
I really am looking forward to the other Marvel Netflix series.
Yes, it takes place after the Avengers movie. In the pilot, they say the following:
**Matt: “‘The Incident,’ is that what we’re calling it now?”
Agent: “Well, it sounds so much better than ‘death and destruction raining from the sky nearly wiping Hell’s Kitchen off the map.’”
Matt: “Shorter too.”**
Yeah, but it was vague enough that if someone here hadn’t mentioned the Avengers I might have missed the significance. Man, if they could only get Spider-man back into the continuity. I heard a story that Sony made the last Spider-man movie just so they wouldn’t have to give up the rights to use the franchise and let it fall back into Marvel’s highly successful new cinematic and now TV continuity. I don’t know if that makes any sense financially.
I like the interpretation of Foggy. I did think that Michael Clarke Duncan was an excellent choice for a Kingpin who could pass as a fat-looking guy who was actually a wall of muscle. But DeFornio has got a lot of credibility to him.
You haven’t been keeping up with entertainment news much have you?
Spider-Man is back in the MCU fold—he’ll be appearing in Captain America: Civil War.
Also, Wesley mentioned to the Russians that he would understand if the Black mask had a magic hammer or an iron suit but he was just a guy, which was clearly a reference to the Avengers.
I have not read any of the posts in this thread because I’ve so far only seen the first three episodes (and really enjoyed them!!) but I just wanted to say that Charlie Cox’s real accent slips through so often that I wish they could have just added a reason for the character to be British.
I am pretty stoked for this Blues Brothers 2000 I just found out about. I just know it’s going to be awesome.
Who are they casting as Spider-Man? IMDB is silent on the matter.
Back on topic: I must say I appreciate and am quite troubled by the unflinching brutality of the show. I like action movies as much as anybody, but once in a while we ought to be reminded that beating the shit out of people really is repulsively barbarous no matter what your motives may be.
Yeah, that’s really reaching, imo. The shout-out to Iron Fist (an upcoming Netflix series) is much more subtle, but definite (Gao’s last line to Lewland).
There’s also the Steel Serpent heroin which has the same symbol on it as Iron Fist antagonist Steel Serpent.
What, you were thinking the White Tiger maybe?
