Not missing pieces, but it was all carried over in expository dialogue, so we kept hearing about some things/people we’d never seen. Made it harder to follow and harder to feel like it was important, though I do think you get the gist of it by the end.
I was disappointed by the last episodes fight. We saw around 100 ninjas congregating outside that door, Matt said there was too many to even count. Instead we get DD and Elektra beating up about a dozen tops if we are being generous and Frank showing up to pointlessly snipe the last two or three. That should have been an epic doomed fight with the Punisher showing up to make an actual difference instead of just showing off the costume for the inevitable Punisher season fan service.
Yeah, that makes sense. I mean, you can’t introduce a bottomless pit and just leave it there - it’s gotta be Chekhov’s Pit.
Nonsuch - “I’m Daredevil” - yes, cool. But also a bit obvious, given how DD spoke with Karen when he found her with the gathered-up civilians. It seemed pretty clear she knew exactly who he was, so the sharing of the mask was more just making it official.
To be fair, this is the same universe where Daredevil considers himself morally superior because he only uses nonlethal fighting techniques like smashing people on the cranium with a metal bar and throwing people down a concrete staircase headfirst.
I finished Season 2 and I generally liked it, even more than Season 1. My least favourite parts of the show are the eye-rollingly omnipotent, omnipresent conspiracies where everyone is being controlled to a ludicrous degree (e.g. the guy who impaled his own head on a spike rather than say who he was working for, “I have to obey them, or they’ll kill my son/mother/girlfriend/etc.!”), and it seemed like they dialed that back a couple of notches from the first season. I also liked that there was overlap between the Punisher and Elektra storylines without having them merge completely.
I thought the silliest parts of Season 2 were the conversations where Elektra was trying to sound British and Matthew Murdock was trying not to sound British, with varying degrees of success.
Her fate was very obviously telegraphed, and the Hand haven’t been developed enough as villains. Electra herself was ok, but her story got dull toward the end. The Punisher storyline was excellent as were Foggy, Karen and Fisk, so the season was still good overall.
I dunno, it’s a pretty big leap to think, “This superhero who fights ninjas by the boatload is clearly that blind guy that I know!”
What was up with Melvin (Daredevil’s tailor)? Season one, he came off as rather slow-witted, nearly child-like… But he was very clearly not in this season. My wife and I both found it rather jarring.
I got the impression he’s a little not there, but is more withdrawn or timid when he’s afraid of someone. Now that he and DD are buds, he’s more functional.
Think “idiot-savant”. He’s not quite that, but while he’s a mechanical/engineering genius as well as a tailor/costumer designer he’s a bit … backward otherwise. Intellectually advanced and emotionally simple.
I wonder how far they plan on going with Karen Page. She has a shitload of problems in the comics.
I’m not going to go into it for fear of spoiling a possible story arc, but she doesn’t always stay this version of Karen
The MCU doesn’t always follow the comics - Ms. Page may or may not wind up with the problems she had in the printed book form.
That was kinda what I meant. I wonder how far they’ll go with that storyline, or if they’ll even feature that arc for her.
I thought DD’s armor would protect him from knives and shurikens?
And I dont get it. He’s supposed to be a hero now. Almost a super hero. When exactly do the Agents of Shield, the Avengers, or some other “hero” agency contact such a person.
Also is there an application process an up and coming hero can go thru to be part of such a group?
Obviously DD’s enemies are getting to powerful for him to fight alone. Elektra was barely a help. Why wouldnt he seek some big muscle for aid?
That’s the way he was in the comics as well. At least under Frank Miller.
I think they’re pushing for a Punisher miniseries and planning on explaining it there. I’d be in for it. I thought Bernthal was fantastic as the Punisher.
I admit to being skeptical about Bernthal as Frank Castle, as well. Pleasantly surprised. Absolutely perfect casting. The casting directors for this and Jessica Jones have done outstanding work.
I didn’t see him getting cut by any knives or shuriken in the show while in costume. Was he?
I thought that was odd, too. Maybe they had a complaint that the character was making fun of the mentally challenged.
Are the specs and capabilities of DD’s new billy-clubs/nunchucks understood - i.e. A straight transfer from the comics? I couldn’t quite tell - the cable that extends between them - he can separate them completely, use the as nunchucks with a short cable, and also use it as a grapple and swing line with a longer cable and some sort of mod to the grapply end?
What else? He seems to be able to throw them, they carom of surfaces and return to him. But I assume that’s his ability not a property of the clubs.
Up to a point. It’s armor, not magic. The typical knife isn’t going to cut it, but some Amazing Super Ninja Knife could.
That’s sort of a problem with him having a secret identity - he doesn’t have a phone number, address, or e-mail. The only way to get ahold of him is to, say, published something in a paper or a radio/TV ad saying “contact us at…” (and deal with the multitude of crazies that will also answer), or have someone prowl the street of hell’s kitchen at night looking for him.
Agents of Shield might be able to connect the dots between DD and Matt Murdock using modern police forensics… but that still requires a bit of luck in getting the pieces of evidence to connect them.
