"Darn Good"!?: Bush on "Intelligence"

From Yahoo/AP: Yahoo News - Latest News & Headlines

“When all is said and done the people of the United States will realize that Saddam Hussein had a weapons program,” Bush said.
“I think the intelligence I get is darn good intelligence and the speeches I have given are backed by good intelligence,” Bush said.

Don’t we deserve a better explanation than this?

At least, shouldn’t our intelligence be better than “darn good”?

Sh-h-h-h-h! Haven’t you heard? After the Director of the CIA took the fall, Bush said that he considers the case closed.

Seriously, Presidents can be replaced. But if our intelligence system is that pitiful, we are in even bigger trouble. I was rather annoyed with the President’s description “darned good” also.

But I will bet that the fault was not with the CIA.

Well, gol-durnit, there ya go!! Them boys do a crack job!! We’re dang lucky to have 'em working on our side.

Consarnit! The guy tried to kill my dad. That’s reason enough. It doesn’t matter if he really had Women of Mass Detention or not. The Iraqians are better off. Just look at Halfandagainstan. We kicked out the Tallyman and the Al Qaida, and now they’re making more heroin than ever before. Democracy is a wonderful thing!

I believe in Texas “darn good” is meant as a high compliment, like “not bad” in Minnesota.

Well and good, dropzone, but this was the President of the United States addressing the press corps. Not a couple of Texans talking back and forth. No aspursions (sp?) meant toward the people of Texas. I think the OP was looking for something a bit more in depth, perhaps an explanation as to why our intelligence gathering agencies led our president to believe that WMD existed. You would think that someone with a highly touted Harvard education would be able to elucidate his points in a more concise manner. Or at least hire a couple of speech writers who are able to make him appear to do so.

“I think the intelligence I get is super duper intelligence and the speeches I have given are backed by duper intelligence,” Bush said.

maureen, perhaps if pres. bush went to harvard he would be able to use words other than darn good. mayhap he would be able to say that: " the intelligence i get is finestkind."

Is “finestkind” a Harvardism? I only know it from MAS*H.

“finestkind” is a new englandism.

Well it is “darn good,” just notice that Bush was careful not to say exactly what it was good for

Do you know English?

Since when? And Yale is in New England.

Awwww, isn’t it cute? Your first whoosh!

Yeah, that’s one of the stories on the AOL welcome page. You gotta love this quote from an AOL member: “Nothing they stated has been proven false – including the uranium claim.” There’s a link for more AOL member quotes, but after seeing that one, I’m scared.

Like fingernails on a chalkboard – to my ears…

I’ve been on other forums!

You guys are absolutely right to be offended at GWB’s lack of elucidation. Bill Clinton was much more articulate off the cuff. Pillar of integrity that he is, I’m sure he would have handled the past couple of years so much better than GWB.
