This is a stupid question I’m sure: how do you move a family to a new neighborhood? I tried what I thought would work – move the family out of a house, then go to the neighborhood and check the available sims bin – but they didn’t show up in the new neighborhood. Did you have to go out of the game?
And as for the same-sex marriage bit, a producer did tell me that this was a subject of a lot of arguments during the development of the game. Don’t know why they chose the way they did, though.
Apparently the only in-game way to move families to a different neighbourhood is to move them into a lot, and then move the lot with the family to the lots bin. The lot (and the family) should then be available for placement in another neighbourhood from the lot bin.
They lose all their relationships doing this, though.
