The Sims 2 has finally made it to my Mac

since i didn’t want to ressurect a dead thread, i figured i’d start a new one

this is a great game, deeper than the original, more subtleties in the way the Sims interact, here’s an example of last night’s play…

they really need to put a warning on the game that it’s addictive and will absorb all your spare time…

The Sims 2 stories

Family #1; the Gattis

Ed Gatti, a loner moves into town into a small “shoe-box” style house, this sim has the Family aspiration…

he knows nobody, so dirties up the apartment and calls the Maid service…

while waiting for the maid, some people drop by, including a rather attractive blonde in a jogging suit (Amy Smith)

Ed greets Amy, who immediately begins sobbing about how her husband left her for another woman, and left her with 2 unruly teens…

Ed immediately comforts her and asks her in, pausing to chat up the maid (Alissa) who has recently arrived to clean up the apartment, and tipping her well for her services

…Amy makes a mad dash for the bathroom, vomiting into the toilet, then sobbing…

Ed comforts her, and chats with her about stuff, complimenting her and making her feel good about herself, Amy looks to be falling for Ed…

Amy leaves midday, and Ed chats up Alissa further, and gives her a couple of big tips to make up for the sheer amount of mess he made of the house (did i mention he’s really a slob?)

next day, Ed invites Amy over again, they’re hitting it off well, until Amy has another vomiting attack and fills up the toilet again… she looks worried…and ill all afternoon…

Alissa’s back again, and grudgingly cleans up Amy’s mess, Amy leaves, and Ed continues putting the moves on Alissa, hugging, flirting, once she’s done with the cleaning, she asks if Ed wants to hang out with her, he does, and continues putting the moves on her, she stays the afternoon and leaves in the evening…

no Amy today

next day, Ed wakes up, proceeds to trash the apartment (with a 1 bar value in neatness, it’s to be expected) and awaits Alissa with great anticipation, greeting her with a passionate hug when she arrives, Alissa does her job, cleans up the apartment, and asks to stay the afternoon (of course she can)

the phone rings, it’s Amy, Ed starts enthusiastically chatting with her, when Alissa hears Amy’s voice on the phone as Ed walks by her, she gets pissed off and leaves in a huff, clearly Alissa and Amy are rivals for Ed’s attention…

Amy comes over, as she enters the house, as Ed greets her, the thought bubble above her head shows a baby pacifier, a teddy bear, and another baby pacifier, she looks sad and worried…
Ed responds enthusiastically, hugging her and clapping, as if to say…“you’re pregnant?!, that’s great!, don’t worry, i’ll take care of you”, Amy’s status icons rapidly increase to “best friends” and “Crush”

…she runs to the bathroom again for another session of morning sickness, returns to the couch, sits down and quite frankly looks terrified and depressed, her face in tears, wailing at her cruel fate, her husband leaving her for another woman, leaving her pregnant and with 2 rambunctious teens

Ed comes over and comforts her, lets her know that he loves her and will “do what’s right by her”, that he’d be honored to be the real father to Amy’s child (which may be part Alien, as Amy’s Ex-husband was Pollination Tech #9), Amy is comforted and calms down, starts getting amorous with Ed, Ed showers her with love and affection (and a few passionate kisses)

…at least until Alissa comes over, Amy leaves the room and goes to sit in the hot tub while Ed chats up Alissa, after a few hours, Amy leaves

Ed is now infatuated with Alissa and keeps calling her over, they’re now to the “best freinds/crush” stage, and Ed invites her to stay the night, she does, leaving to get some sleep in the morning, the maid service sends another maid to clean the apartment

over the next few days, Ed tries to call Amy over, but she’s become a workaholic and is never available, oh well, back to Alissa, still puttin’ the moves on, after she’s done cleaning the house, he invites her to the bed for a make-out session (or three)

Alissa is now madly in love with Ed, and they get together for some sweet, sweet WooHoo, BAM!

Amy’s still at work, screening her calls, her sarcastic, know-it-all teens answer for her, she’s never available, the one time she does come over, she walks in, sees Alissa, cries, and walks out, immersing herself in her work…

Ed is saddened by the rejection, but wait, what’s this, i guess that means more WooHoo time with Alissa, SCORE!

the next day, Ed plans his strategy, he orders up a pizza, makes sure the hot tub is hot and bubbly, and puts some romantic music on the stereo…

Alissa comes by, does her work, Ed asks her to hang out, she happily accepts, showering Ed with a deep, romantic kiss, hearts spin above her head, as their relationship rises to “Love”

Ed goes down on one knee and proposes

she accepts!

Ed proposes Marriage…

she accepts!

they consummate their marriage with sweet, sweet WooHoo…

after they do the deed, i hear a “twinkling” sound, i pay it no mind, as the radio’s playing in the other room…

over the next few days, Alissa’s energy level drops faster than normal, and her hunger is always high…

on the third day, she gets sick to her stomach, and runs to the toilet to worship the porcelain God, and continues to do this throughout the next few days…

you’d think that Ed would feel bad about deserting the first woman who liked him, especially after he told her he’d take care of her, he just turns his back on her, not because she’s pregnant, apparently that was a turn-on for him, but because he’s got the attention span of a fruit-fly

poor Amy, she gets knocked up by her husband, who then leaves his pregnant wife for another woman, leaving her alone with her teens and a baby on the way, then the only other man to show interest in her, and who’s not turned off by her “condition” abandons her for a dolled up little tralk in a French-maid uniform

…wouldn’t surprise me if she swears off men entirely, or at the very least, Alien men with wanderlust…

…meanwhile, Alyssa wakes up a few days later to a swelling tummy, and she is now happily waddling around the house in her undies, her growing belly exposed for the world (okay, maybe just Ed) to see, constantly raiding the fridge and playing with the R/C car i gave Ed to stave off boredom in his (admittedly short) single life…

looks like it’s time for that bigger house i’ve had my eye on, time to evict the family that lives there and move the Gattis in…

Hi, my new best friend.
So glad to have another addict to talk to! Once you get settled in to The Sims 2 and need more, you may want to check out Nightlife, coming out around 9/13 (Maxis’ stated “ship” date).

I was just remembering the other day how awed I felt upon the first installation of Sims 2. It’s so above and beyond The Sims it’s unreal! The one thing I wished on a daily basis while playing the original Sims was to be able to zoom far in and be able to see their faces better. Not only can you do that in Sims 2, but they actually have expressions!

There are few bugs that will need fixing (unless they went ahead and put the patch in with new copies) but you can download the official patch from Thesims2.com. Even with the patch I still had issues that I had to fix with 3rd-party hacks but they are usually easy to find and download.

One word of advice: I’d lose the R/C car. If you save while they are playing it, it causes a glitch where memories, wants & fears, and jobs don’t work right. There may be a 3rd-party hack out for that by now though…hmmm. I may have to go research that because I like the little car, gosh darned it!

What neighborhood did you start out in? The maid and other NPC’s don’t sound familiar to me. I mostly play Pleastantview, have dipped occasionally into Strangetown, and once played Veronaville before my hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall.

The hardest thing for me to do is let the buggers die of old age. I get too attached…well, to the ones I make anyways. Ol’ Mortimer Goth bit the Big One in record time.

I just let my first 2nd-installation Sim turn Elder a couple of days ago. She’s an elf named Grace married to a (soon to be a real one!) vampire named Simon. She was originally married to the gardener Leo and they had about 3 kids, but then he got Alien pregnant and somehow managed to starve to death when I wasn’t looking. I created Simon and his sister, Simone, and moved them in across the street. Grace and Simon hit it off so I got them married.

Then after completing University (got the expansion :D), Leo’s 1st alien daughter, Quiterie, got onto the Paranormal Career Path, got her Career Reward Resurrect-O-Nomitron, called up Ol’ Grim, and brought Leo back to life. He then had the baby he was carrying when he died, which turned out to be another girl I named Qubilah.

Leo remarried to Brandi Broke, moved in her and her two youngest sons, and they are expecting another baby. In the meantime, both alien daughters have moved out, married and have each produced at least one offspring.

If you plan on playing a lot of families, one thing I recommend (if you care at all about kind of aging everyone together) is to put the Last Played date in the info section below the Sims pics when you click on a house. I was getting too engrossed in one family at a time, play them for forever and then realized I’m on the 3rd generation and all of Grandma’s original neighborhood friends are still children. :smack: So that’s my way of making sure the families don’t get too out of sync.

So, let’s talk Sims!

Remember the days when Maxis games used to come out on Mac first? Hell, remember the days when Maxis was an actual company and not just a label owned by EA?

already installed the patch, patched it even before i began play

interesting… looks like i’ll need to buy them the pinball machine then

Strangetown is where i started, didn’t even play the tutorial, jumped in with both feet, as i’m a skilled Sims 1 player, err… torturer

i know what you mean, in my second family, the Rai family (Priya and Pollination Tech #9) seems like the alien/human sims age quicker (or is it just the fact that women live longer than men), PT #9 is already an Elder, 63 days or so, yet Priya is still less than halfway thru adulthood…

Priya stole PT 9 away from Amy (after he impregnated Amy) and has already given birth to her first Alien/Human hybrid

Priya is a dark-skinned Asian looking woman with green eyes and black hair, PT #9 is a green skinned humanoid with a shock of white hair, an almost nonexistent nose, and wide, black eyes

little Damien (prophetic name, eh?) has his mother’s skin tone, his eyes are the shape of his dad’s but gray, he has his father’s (lack of a) nose and his mother’s black hair, aside from the lack of nose, he looks to take more after his mom, appearancewise…

are the Elves/Vampires and such simply manipulations of stock Sims skins/faces, or is this an expansion pack or something?

tonight’ll be interesting, i’ll be moving the Rai family out of their shoebox and into another bigger house (yes i use cheat codes, what of it? ), and perhaps finding the "Right Man (or Woman, it’s her choice, after all, and i’m an equal-opportunity Sims-torturer, errr…player, makes no difference to me who wants to WooHoo with who…)

i meant to continue…
and perhaps finding the “Right Man (or Woman)” for Amy, the unwed mother Sim, it’s her choice, after all, and i’m an equal-opportunity Sims-torturer, errr…player, makes no difference to me who wants to WooHoo with who…)

Just shows how experienced a Sim player you are.

If I remember correctly, they start out that way: he’s already an Elder and she’s an Adult? I haven’t noticed any difference in how fast they age. It’s pretty much based on how well they grew up (or if they grew up at all - CAS Sims start out with the minimum number of days for their life stage [I think CAS Elders live about 9 days without Elixir or Aging Off], while playing a Sim from birth on up allows you to have them “Grow Up Well” which extends their lifespan overall).

I know that look. First thing I fixed with the Show Business Aspiration Reward (again, University expasion) was Quiterie’s face. I only wanted to fix her nose, but it unfortunately blew up on me and she pretty much looked like the Wicked Witch of the West’s much uglier sister so I had to give her a completely new face. :stuck_out_tongue:

Elves? Yes there’s a premade face with almond shaped eyes and pointy ears. Also makes for a great Vulcan. Vampires? Not much freakin’ longer till they are a ‘reality’!

My husband just informed me he’s going to play pool for a bit. Heck Yeah! Serious Simmin’ shall be done tonight! Which reminds me; I have about 90 downloads sitting in my basket at thesimsresource.cop that I need to download and add to my game!

I think you still left us hanging, man! :stuck_out_tongue:

N’mind. :smack:
Perhaps I should work on reading comprehension tonight instead of the Sims.
Naaaaaah. :stuck_out_tongue:

as a scientific experiment for tonights episode of “Find Amy a Partner”, i’ve created a female sim with the exact same stats as Ed, just female

if you played the Sims 1 enough it was clear that they were using a generic behavior model for both male and female Sims, male Sims would sometimes perform “female” style actions (such as on the “flirt” command, shaking their <nonexistent> chest at the sim flirting with them) and female Sims would perform “male” actions as well…

for example, Sim A was flirting with Sim B, the command tree for the “Flirt” command would probably read as such…

If Sim A initiates flirt command to Sim B, Sim B will display the “shaking chest” command
If Sim B initiates flirt command to Sim A, Sim A will display the “shaking chest” command

pretty simple If-Than commands

i wonder if TS-2 adds the sex of the Sim into the mix, and more to the point, would a Sim trained to love the opposite sex be repulsed by a Sim of the same sex attempting to seduce them (and vice versa, a sim who prefers the same sex be repulsed by a member of the opposite sex…), seems to make things unduly complex…

probably just an enhanced version of the initial If-Then command tree above…

should find out tonight

Well, Amy’s now happily moved in with Niko, and she’s no longer obsessing on her ex-husband, she seems to no longer be worrying about her pregnancy either, she’s happily gorging herself in the fridge

she’s finally happy and in a loving family environment…

…at least until i get bored and start making things worse

:stuck_out_tongue:
You do know if you torture them enough they start to twitch, right?

Sims start off at having no gender preference. How you have them interact with other Sims determines their preference. I’ve also seen where they prefer both.
Regardless of what their gender preference is you can still have a successful romantic interaction with the opposite simply by having the relationship between the two at satisfactory levels. If you wish to have Sims with gender preferences stick with that preference, you can download a hack that will keep them from accepting romantic interactions from their non-preferred sex.

If you want to find out your Sims’ preferences there’s a cheat to do it called boolprop testingcheatsenabled.
It’s a really glitch cheat that can mess up your game if you don’t know what you’re doing.
I’ve only used it to check preferences, add or delete small electronics from Sims (University Expansion), and force the occasional alien abduction (before I got a hack to increase chances ‘naturally’). If you’re interested I can go into what I know but you might be better off checking out the Sims 2 site and searching their BBS for ‘boolprop’ and put the results in order of rating.

I started a new family last night to thin out the blood in my neighborhood. They’re the Hicks; Brenda, Bubba, and Nanna.
Brenda and Bubba are siblings and Nanna, an Elder, is their mother.
I’ve started them off in a crappy little apartment with all junk furniture. They are my bumpkins.
One of the outfits I downloaded last night inspired me.
Brenda and Nanna are both Family Sims and Bubba is going for fortune.
I’m thinking I’m going to move Bubba & Brenda out after they bring in some loot for Nanna to furnish her apartment.

turns out Amy actually had a very bad case of food poisoning, she’s no longer showing any animations that relate to babies, it turns out the poor, confused Sim thought she was going to be a mommy, false alarm…

i also discovered that PT9 had never officially broken up with her, so she’s only “roommates” with her new freind for now, i’ll break them up tonight, assuming PT9 doesn’t shuffle off this mortal coil tonight, he’s at the tail end of his Elder years, turns out he was a late-adult when he was seduced by Kara (the best damn seductress in the game  )

Sorry for the delay in responding - I’ve been home sick. Speaking of which, Maxis got it down pretty pat when it comes to how the Sims Needs react to illness. :stuck_out_tongue:

At least it was food poisoning.
I’ve been trying to wipe out the flu from one neighborhood for a few weeks now. Every time I think I got it, someone shows up hacking and coughing and fouling up the toilets. :smack:
Then there was a special case; Ivy What’s-her-face (Copour? a teen in your game that I grew up into an adult by sending her to Uni) showed up with flu symptoms. I entered her house to try to get her well and realized she had the Medicine Career Reward – that thing that makes cures for illness?
“Perfect!” thought I and sat Ivy down to make a cure for the flu, especially since she had just managed to infect her husband and daughter.
Did you know that even if you are in Platinum Mood, you can still goof up and create a virus? :smack:
So she had the Mysterious Illness on top of the flu when I decided that, what the hey! let’s get her pregnant too.
Miraculously, she recovered and delivered a healthy baby.
By the way, the medicine you can make with the machine? DOES NOTHING. Nada, zero, zipola.
I had her drink cure after cure after cure, all a nice healthy dark blue, and it didn’t increase her healing time at all. Curious as to if I was doing it right, I hunted up info on the Sims 2 site and got pretty much the same feeling from most everyone else who posted trying it. A couple of people claimed it worked, but it was probably freaking coincidence. :dubious:

Waaaaaahhhhhh! I want Sims 2 for my Mac!

throws tantrum

I wan’ it!

I wan’ it!

I wan’ it!!

holds breath till I turn blue

I just had an evil thought - the next Sim that I don’t have a personal attachment to (i.e. a Maxis made character I haven’t played much) that shows up with the flu, I’m going to quarantine them in their house and see what this pneumonia is all about.
Mwahahaha! :stuck_out_tongue:

So, what’s the prob, Bob? Get it already! You’re falling behind…they’re two expansion packs ahead of you.

Too expensive!
mopes

Less than $30 doesn’t sound too bad.
If you check your local EB stores and the like you might could find it used and not have to pay the shipping.

I feel like a crack dealer. :o

Ooooh!!! You need this!
With Sim City 4 you can design the neighborhoods you play in the Sims 2!
And it’s 3 games for cheaper than that first link!
Hmmmm…you may have to outbid me. :stuck_out_tongue:

They don’t mesh very well, though.

Well, that’s disappointing.
Good thing I’m too lazy to worry about making my own neighborhoods. :stuck_out_tongue:
