Nobody spends a half-billion dollars, puts his family through the wringer, and says and does anything for a job that pays a mere $400,000 per year and causes massive premature aging unless there’s something in it for them. Pervert? Probably not. Unbridled egomaniac? Absolutely.
All politicians, every single one of them, lust for power.
Not all non-egomaniacs make life decisions based on the size of their paycheck, or how stressful the decision might be for their family. I would think a military man would recognize that.
What I thought was great a couple of years ago was the outrage that Republicans had over Rahman Emmanuel saying that you should never let a crisis go to waste. I mean, they’ve been the fucking poster children for that mentality for decades, but when a Democrat says it, somehow it’s an abominable attitude.
But to keep things in perspective I have to say that of course all are lusting for power.
Duh.
There is a difference that is however important IMHO.
There is no clear separation in the parties as one can point at exceptions, but currently some politicians seek and lust for power to allow them, as representatives of the people, to tell corporations and other powerful men to take a hike when the common good is at stake.
Unfortunately there are also many that seek that power only to defer it to those powerful corporations and to benefit the powerful.
Do I have to point out what kind of politician are Issa and Romney and where are they coming from and who they represent?
It is not “fucking horseshit”, nor was I defending Darrell Issa. I was addressing the specific post quoted. If I was addressing something else I probably would have quoted that.
I think it’s quite possible that Issa and Romney don’t see a distinction between those two views. Their rhetoric seems to be based on the idea that the more money and power they (and people like them) have, then that really is for the common good.[sup]*[/sup]
I can certainly see why that would be a comforting belief for a rich person to have; that their wealth and luxury is a benefit to the world. I don’t see much evidence that it’s true. Whether Romney and Issa genuinely believe it, or simply wish us to, is something I don’t think we can ever know.
I may have left out a step in their mental arithmetic. The view might be expressed as “an environment which allows my peers and their corporations to accumulate money and power is to everyone’s benefit,” if that makes a difference.
I definitely think that that’s something that at least some of them tell themselves. In cases of multi-generational wealth, they’re probably raised from childhood to believe it.
Lets have my question answered first. If you think Bush knew that 9/11 was going to happen then you have to accept that Obama knew about the embassy attack.
If I may jump in here, I don’t believe either, and I don’t know what miss elizabeth believes. but it does not logically follow that if you believe one then you must believe the other.
Fuck your false equivalence with a dirty Occam’s razor! It is Republicans that since Plame are at the front on blowing secret covers for political gain.
The Republicans often are very free with accusations of treason, but in these cases, Issa has done real damage. Calling him a traitor isn’t a huge exaggeration.
I wish this was getting more traction. His timing was good - the Friday right before the last debate only two weeks away from the election. Other priorities are going to make this go away. Unreal.
