dashboard question

just bought a used mercury, and the front of the dash up by the window and vent has shrank and curled up a bit. how would i go about fixing that and re-attaching it to the dash proper?

A heat gun, some cloth, some good quality duct time, and patience.

You’ll have to heat the dash to where the curled point is malleable, use the cloth to keep from burning yourself while you reform it, and then tape it down, over the cloth, while it sets.

Very tricky as the plastic is thin and care must be taken not to overheat it while still heating it evenly.

Before you get into that, you might check with local salvage yards for a replacement, shouldn’t be as expensive as you might expect. A little more involved to install though.

Once plastic has shrunk, it’s forever. The only repair I’d even put effort into would be to replace the dash with a better one from a junkyard. It would be a **lot **of work to swap a full dash.

Otherwise, there are vinyl or carpet dash covers that might make it look a bit better.
