I was at a bar last night and this lady across from me was showing off her new purse. It was a huge pair of shiny lips. “Oh nice!” I said. “Isn’t that from the Jetsons?”
Then almost simultaneously, everyone shouted that it was from Sex in The City. Well I never watched that show. But I was forced to explain what the hell I was talking about with the Jetsons comment.
I explained that Judy Jetson had a diary that was just some floating lips. She would talk to it instead of writing, and I believe it actucally had a name.
No one could remember this. The bar had a little fun at my expense and then went into a little Jetsons trivia.
But I am still convinced that I’m not crazy. Please tell me she had a diary that was a pair of floating lips.
Better yet, someone please tell me the name of her diary!
Didi’s voice was provided by the imcomparable Selma Diamond, better known as the inspiration behind the character Sally on The Dick Van Dyke Show, and onscreen as the original bailiff on Night Court.
Thanks guys! I am so printing out those pictures and taking them with me next week.
Of course, I’m not sure that “Hey look at the information I obtained from my internet friends on a computer message board” will help much for my “Im not a loser, I just happen to remember Judy talking to a diary that was floating lips” defense.
I guess that means that my desire for a “Jet Screamer” tour t-shirt has ominous implications as well.
“Oh, Jet Screamer Screamer Screamer Screamer, you’re my dreamer dreamer dreamer dreamer…” (or, if you prefer “Eeep Op Ork Ah Ah! That means I Love You!”
Thanks for the childhood flashback! Remembering the Jetsons puts a smile on my face. It also makes me feel rather old since I’m guessing most people under 30 have never seen it.
Low blow. I’m eight years under your minimum, and I have a fond remembrance.
Even today, you can catch it at off-hours on Cartoon Network. As recently as 1990, there has been a Jetsons movie (starring 80s pop-tart Tiffany! ). I fondly remember Jetsons on days home sick from school when I was a kid.
Who’s now a housewife and who relatively recently appeared in Playboy!
Anyhoo, Jetsons: The Movie came out in 1990. But there was also two TV movies in the 80s - The Jetsons Christmas Carol (1985) and The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones (1987). I’m just surprised no one’s tried to do a live-action version yet, what with the two Flintstones films. Well, maybe that’s a good thing.
