So UK TV channel “Dave” has started a programme called School of Hard Sums.
A maths show. On a channel called Dave.
But…I actually quite like Dave: they show repeats of good shows, and they are quite ambitious in the kinds of show that they commission themselves.
Even for them this is a huge punt (as Dara himself has said) and…it didn’t quite work for me.
It was great being given problems to solve. But they kept trying to inject comedy and failing; personally I would have been happy with a completely sober show, but I understand why they tried to do this.
Between Dara, Marcus and the students there’s a lot of smugness which I can see getting grating (although one particular self-satisfied look Marcus gave to camera was the highlight of the show for me).
