Saw him at the Tower Theater (small venue, 2000 seats or so) tonight.
Hell of a show. Loved loved loved it – at least once I got over “I quit taking drugs before these damn children were born.”
A bunch of stuff from his new album with Brian Eno – plus one song from My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. And a fair amount of Talking Heads stuff, mostly from Remain in Light.
A very, very enthusiastic crowd – all of whom, young and old, were singing along at the top of our lungs to “Life During Wartime.”
Two drummers, keyboards, bass, guitar, three singers, three dancers.
Three encores.
If he’s playing in your town and you’ve thought “Hm, wonder if that would be any good” – yeah, it would be.
I’d really like to see him one of these days - the girlfriend and I are both huge Talking Heads fans, especially of Stop Making Sense. I’ve been meaning to check out his solo stuff.
This is actually a really great album, IMHO. The standout tracks for me are the title track (love that song!), Home, The River, Life is Long, and Strange Overtones. Hmm. I guess that’s nearly half the album right there!
I can report a new kind of concert-audience-member injury: I’ve got a bruise on the bone on the outer side of my right wrist – I’m guessing because the heavy silver bangle that I wear 24/7 was banging against it as I was applauding and clapping along and generally acting like a superannuated fangirl.
Was the song from My Life in the Bush of Ghosts “Help Me Somebody”? That’s what he played when I saw him at Austin City Limits Festival this year. I was tickled - not only did 95% of the audience probably not know that song, but I never thought it could be performed live at all. It was awesome.
