From 1982. It don’t git no better, chilluns.
Heh. Takes me back.
I likes me some slide guitar.
Saw Lindley and El Rayo X as a kid, here in SLC (opening for Jimmy Cliff?)—What a great show band…
Thanks for the nice reminder of a killer night, a long time ago!!!
Matthew
I love Lindley’s “Very Greasy” album, especially Tiki Torches.
“Put away the axes
And pay those taxes…
Let’s all get normal at the luau!”
(From memory):
Gonna buy me a Mercury and drive it up and down the road.
One of my fave albums from college!
Well, the girl I love, I stole her from a friend
He got lucky stole her back again
'Cause she know’d he had a Mercury,
Lord she’s crazy 'bout a Mercury,
I’m gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road.
Album sample here.
I never gave it much thought - I assumed he was playing bottle neck.
Good stuff from back in the day.
Cat food sandwiches!
I will definitely be subscribing to this thread!
I love that song. Man, we covered that in college cover bands when it first came out. Imagine playing that at a fraternity party in Isla Vista (the little town where the students live who attend UCSB, on the beach). Needless to say, I didn’t exactly have the slide parts down, per se but the girls didn’t seem to mind.
Totally swampy, fun tune. I’ll have to break that out!
