David Nelson has died

The last of the TV family of Ozzie and Harriet has passed away. The older brother to pop star Ricky Nelson and the quiet, unassuming character in the series. Most people didn’t know that Ozzie was a big band leader in the 30s and 40s.

Not much to say. It’s the end of the saga. Mostly it reminds me that I miss the rest of the family.

Ozzie and Harriet was on the air for 14 years! Why no syndicated reruns as in Leave It to Beaver?

My guess is that show was even duller than Leave It to Beaver.

It was pretty much the equal. Ozzie and the family were a very affable bunch, with that wholesome 50s look about them. Even Ricky, who had the classic 50’s hairdo and was in the music scene, was mostly shown lip-synching his songs and showing pouty lips and dreamy eyes. No rebels allowed. The best song of his career was the one he wrote late in life called “Garden Party”.

Looks like we have this month’s trifecta, after Gerry Rafferty and Phil Kennemore. :frowning:

Trivia: Nelson’s daughter Teri was married for 19 years to Love Connection host Chuck Woolery.

Ozzie and Harriet was much superior to** Leave it to Beaver**.
**
Ozzie and Harriet** was a show for adults, both the radio show and the tv show, although teenagers also liked it because of Ricky. Ozzie and Harriet was a very well rounded show with a large cast that had many many different themes and story lines.

OTOH, Leave it to Beaver, always!! was a stupid “kids” show with every episode being about Beaver ALWAYS! getting into trouble in EVERY episode because of Beaver’s constant stupidity.

There is no comparison between the 2 shows.

I wonder why neither David, nor Ricky, got drafted into the army???

David was too old for the Vietnam draft. Ricky was old enough, but may just not have been called up. He would have been too old once the draft hit it’s peak.

We used to watch the show every week. David was the character nobody cared about.

I wonder why neither David, nor Ricky, got drafted into the army???

Vietnam has nothing to do with it. There was a draft since WW2. Elvis Presley got drafted, and David Nelson was about the same age as Elvis.

There also was no reason at all why Ricky should not have been drafted. Both David and Ricky seemed healthy enough to be drafted.

Ozzie must have pulled some strings at his local draft board.

“Beaver” was cool. “Ozzie and Harriet” was dull even on radio and I’m a huge OTR fan.

David was just a run of a mill guy, like 99.9% of people on this board, that happened to be in a show biz family. It’s sad when anyone dies, especially since he is one of the older generaton of entertainers. Poor guy always had to live in Ricky’s shadow.

That is funny!

Registering for the draft, which David and Ricky probably did, is not the same as being called up.
