In this thread, you decided to act like a complete jerk towards me by first dismissing the debate I opened regarding the causes of WWII after December 1941 as banal and useless and then by patronizing me on grounds that were completely off when I replied to why I didn’t think that it was banal or unimportant an issue. If that’s your definition of banal debates I’d be more than delighted to see your defenition of worthwhile. Anyway…

First of all sir. You’re way off. I am not German, I have no guilt feelings over the Third Reich, even if I was German I hope I wouldn’t have any guilt feelings over it regarding that my parents were only born in the midst of it. Nor do I for that matter over what any of my Norwegian, Swedish, French and distant Saxon forefathers might have done in the past. You obviously misread my statement ‘my generation of Germans’ as being focused on ‘Germans’ rather than ‘my generation’ as it was meant. I was merely trying to point out to you that it is rather strange to dismiss the issue we were discussing as irrelevant and “a postmodern mishmash”, since it does have bearing on peoples lives every day to this very day.

I found your dismissal of the issue slightly strange after having cared to debate it at some length. To top it off the first remark regarding GD was quite patronizing in itself.

More than anything I am deeply offended at the tone of your last post which obviously means to put my views straight in light of your completely misreading my post and taking me for some guilt ridden idiot that needs to justify himself by kook explanations of the Holocaust and WWII. I am also offended on begalf of any German that might have had to read the patronizing crap that you posted there. Who the fuck are you to take issue with my views through rhetoric on that level?

I happen to think the topic we were discussing is a very interesting and worthwhile one. I have spent more than a little time researching it both out of personal and professional interest and I think that I am slightly above average informed on the events in Germany between 1918 and 1945. Further I have no business, nor reason to politicize this issue. Although I differed with you on some details in the debate I had no agenda to turn you around. Were you running out of arguments or afraid that I might teach you something?

This all started as an effort from my side to rectify an OP in another thread that was obviously misinformed and flawed in it’s premises in as friendly a way as I could. A well based post later and one completely idiotic one we were suddenly in a discussion about the central mechanics of WWII and I took the opportunity to open the thread (in which you decided to be jerk) in order to examine the issues.

All I can say is fuck you, you patronizing, narrow-minded dickhead.

You are way off-base here, Sparc. There was nothing patronizing in David Simmons’ post, and he was decidedly not being a jerk to you or anybody else. Go take a valium or something.

I’ve got to say that when I saw the author and object of this rant I thought I’d stepped into an alternate universe where the next threads would have Eutychus assaulting C K Dexter Haven or me savaging Polycarp.

Having read the original thread, I will say that I can see points of friction. However, I really don’t think that it required this particular response. (Not all of us American geezers are identical to december in outlook.)

I, too, think you’ve overreacted a bit, Sparc. A touch of sleep deprivation, perhaps?

You are way off base, Sparc. You asked a question and David Simmons answered you intelligently and with cites even. He made one minor error about whether or not your OP was in the correct forum and apologized when he was corrected. It’s too bad that his answer wasn’t what you wanted to hear. You did want a debate, didn’t you?

Yeah I guess that I am flying off the handle a little bit too much. Frightfully sorry about that David. I have reread your post and in the light of day it doesn’t motivate my reaction. An excuse is of course always badly explained and should be unqualified by explanations, but I’ll say it anyway; Tom’s right, sleep depravation, bad, bad, bad day from other perspectives and an overload of work.

For what it’s worth I still think directing me to The Rise and Fall was rather uncalled for. I mean come on that’s like telling another Christian that you happen to disagree with that maybe he should go read the bible. Further, I don’t know if you still haven’t read the first thread by now, but If you have you should have read my posts citing Mein Kampf as well.

In any case I am sorry for the harsh words and I hope that you’ll be able to look past my unmotivated outburst.

Most importantly if it came across as I was disdainful to your knowledge and command of the subject matter I’d like to point out that I respect your points and find them well based and argued.
