Is it possible to have a rule or set of rules whose definition is based on a “reasonable persons” standard on the SDMB? Methinks not.

Actually I have been through sexual harrassment training, which is compulsary at my company.
In between role playing videos, and sincere lecturers explaining to a roomful of mature adults why it’s not appropriate to display your penis to your female coworkers (apparently this happened at another office.) “Hey Judy, could you file these reports for me, and by the way check THIS out.”
Anyway, in between, we actually did have a discussion concerning the reasonable person issue.
Mentioning that would have taken all the fun out of my post though, so I didn’t.
On the other hand if the “Judy” mentioned above did not feel harrassed by the… …ummm …member in question. Than that would not be sexual harrasment.
It has to pass the reasonable person test, and ALSO be unwelcome.
Unless we can go back and find an instance where you made an unwelcome AND unreasonable comment (something about his sexual inadequaces would be particularly good.) I guess were out of luck.
So much for getting the thread back on track.
So we’re all agreed, then, that DavidB should stay until he drops dead from overwork?

Felice, pull the claws back in dear. If I didn’t enjoy reading these, I wouldn’t. I was just curious how much “drifting”, as Lynn calls it, had to occur before a thread was closed.
I find the other topics here interesting, but if they were in their own thread, I think it would be helpful. There are, no doubt, people who find the topic of this thread uninteresting, and therefore they don’t read it. But they are missing out on the “drifts” from the last three pages or so.
I was just curious what the guidelines were for closing a thread that was off topic. But thanks for bein’ rude, I guess I needed a reminder that I was in the BBQ Pit, huh?

I guess I am just getting a little sick and tired of people’s response to complaints being “If you don’t like it, then leave.”
I wasn’t complaining, I was voicing an opinion, and asking Lynn a question regarding policies. I felt that his/her response (not Lynn’s) of “if you don’t like it, don’t log on” to be out of line.
So in other words Wally, it wasn’t out and out rude, but uncalled for in my opinion. To which a bunch of you will probably respond with “if you don’t like it–leave”
Actually SINs, if you withstood all the crap & insinuations that you & Newt were the same person, your peel’s probably pretty thick, and I suspect you won’t run off because of a few flicks of fire here in the Pit.

I am not particularly interested in starting new topics. But if anyone else wants to explore some of the subjects discussed here, open a new thread.

SINs, Felice didn’t say don’t come to the SDMB and she didn’t say don’t log on. She said (as shown above) don’t read threads that don’t interest you. That’s pretty sound advice - there are definately some threads that I wish I missed :). I really don’t think Felice was trying to be rude (at least it doesn’t read that way to me) so don’t sweat it.

I don’t think we are going to take the record anytime soon. There is a thread in MPSIMS that is 18 (!!!) pages long. And the most annoying part of it? It is about “Guy stuff.” Oh well. Congrats to Uncle Beer for starting such a reproductive thread.
