I haven’t given up on the game yet, but my experience is similar to yours. “Real time” day/night cycles are not fun because I’m not going to play any game for days stright. And it really does feel like a lot of work to get set up with the basics, only to die at the slightest misstep. And even if I got set up with a silenced assault rifle and endless food, I’m not sure what I’d explore, other than more hamlets filled with sealed-up houses.
I have to agree. The game is made for people who actively enjoy the PvP aspect of the game. Once you’re geared up, there’s just nothing else left to do. I’ve completely abandoned DayZ for The Secret World, which is more my style of game. I look forward to The War Z, and hope it’s got more of a SP structure…

It’s tough breaking the habbits learned in Battlefield / Dead Rising / Left 4 Dead with this game. I have a tendency to try and shoot and tomahawk chop my way out of most problems. Usually with disasterous results.
The Z, C and W buttons are usually your best friend with this game (iow either lay down and dont move or get up and run the fuck out of there as fast as you can).
So I guess no one was around to prod everyone with a stick to get them playing while I was gone. Well, I’m back, so I’ll start getting stuff going again.
What’s the current situation? What has changed in the last month? Do we have home servers with working bases or anything?
I think the short version is: Hackers killed the game. Everyone is waiting for the standalone.
Ive been playing fallujah map and enjoying it. My dayz char is 48 days old and kinda bored sitting in a bush by the nwaf. Im up for getting together. Im mostly a medic.
I’m not a gamer (not even a little bit) but I love watching people play stuff like this. Finally a game who’s premise is “you start with nothing and you’re likely f*cked, as you would be in reality, so how long can you survive?”

I still play almost every day, have 3 private hive servers (Dayz+, Normal DayZ Chernarus and Taviana). Anyone is welcome to hop into the servers, the normal dayz one has 40-50 players on a night and usually me or another admin can keep it clean of cheaters. And if not we can rollback to make the cheaters damage disappear. PM me if you want the info!

I am still a hero on all but one of the servers I rent. One I was persuaded to try the darkside. With that experience as a bandit compared to as a hero… I can say wholeheartedly that a bandit has it much easier to survive the end times :-/ I still prefer playing as a hero though!
Whats the difff between Dayz and Dayz+?
I have found myself more often than not on Wasteland lately. Time to get back to killing zombies! I play as a medic, get shot in the face more often than not and its fun talking to ppl who dont understand why I dont want to pvp. My hatchet is my friend, I’ll pick up an M4 if I can find SD rounds.
Oh, I REALLY LOVE the new GSRS sounds mod. Played on a few servers with it and it makes a huge difference.
This game caused me to go out and buy a Corsair K90 and M90 keyboard mouse combo!
DayZ + was and is developed by 2 of the DayZ devs. Some of the things they do will eventually be incorporated into DayZ. Right now the differences are zombies hit damn hard, you can build structures yourself (limited atm to, deer stand, barriers, lookout fortification, gates, camo netting etc) the loot table is a bit different with Russian made weapons being the standard and US weapons being special finds at crashes etc. All in all a good mod. Personally I still look forward to 1.7.5 normal DayZ where they will incorporate a lot of new features to make it more survival based again.

DayZ 2017 is another mod of a mod that is interesting, it is hardcore. No military grade loot, you can gut and collect human/zed steaks to cook and eat (infection likely to follow but with limited food well… a chance some will take) Best weapon is probably the winchester or enfield… most supermarkets etc have at most a can of dog food if that to eat… overall a survival masterpiece.

2017 is on DayZCommander, remember to go to Steam Arma 2 OA properties and add -mod=@DayZ2017 to the launch options!
I dont use Steam, I might have to switch to it though to get the SA. I can modify the launch parameters in DayzCommander tho.

I’ve been playing on a private hive server that has 200-300 vehicles, plus motorcycles at the more remote spawn points. It’s just enough vehicles that you can find one when you want one, without going overboard. IMHO, it makes for a much faster and more tense game knowing the roads are a lot more dangerous and a car full of bandits can roll up on your location in seconds.
Plus I don’t have time in my life to spend 20 hours assembling a car only to hide it at the edge of the map for fear someone will steal it once I log off.
Yah on the chernarus map I have almost 300 land vehicles. Most are crap but some are SUV/BAF Offroads/MTVR kind of kick ass vehicles. I also have new towns and a new city as well as strongholds, and outposts with barracks. Yes it has a fair share of pvp 
I got shot in the back trying to figure out how to pick up a tire, so I tried a newb-friendly server to start. Found an SUV with a half tank of gas and went on a tour of Chernarus. Almost got in a head-on with some kind of Humvee. I didn’t stop to exchange insurance info, though they seemed eager to, and pursued me for several kilometers.
