The combination of the insane glitchiness and the ridiculous load times was just too much for me.
I could probably deal with one or the other, but not both. Will definitely be watching closely for the standalone version.

The first person is the most important view for shooting, that and the iron sights/scope. Test it someday in Arma 2s basic training, the difference between this game and most others is… bullets are not magic.
I learned about the first person early on. These were righteous headshots. Ah well, now I just need to find a server that wont crash or “session Lost” as soon as I get away from the coast.
Anybody around today?
Ill be up around 1230 central time. The last couple days have been tough hacker wise.
On the plus side being turned into a rabbit was amusing for a bit. Took a break and practiced mouse aiming in arma II
Well, I have to say I’ve got to give up on this game. In the last two days I have tried to play at least a dozen times. EVERY time I played regardless of server, within twenty minutes some cheater teleported to me and killed me.
Most of the time it happened within minutes. I managed to find some supplies and book out of Cherno by server hopping every five minutes. I restarted this morning and within ten seconds of spawning in the middle of the woods, an invisible SUV shows up and I fall over dead.
It’s just not fun anymore. What a waste of money. The only way I can see playing is if I also cheat and somehow find a godmode script so I can go about my way without being killed by invisible immortal cheaters. I’ll end up banned for that most likely while the cheaters continue with hacked cd keys.
I am still playing as is my son. We tend to stay on admin on server servers. Working with the medics is both fun and rewarding! I haven’t walked anywhere in 2 weeks. Almost always helicopter rides, and more pvp than ever. A helicopter for a wounded person in cherno is a huge target, one that has gotten at least a helicopter a day shot out from under me.
As I was saying about the hackers though, find ones with admins on. It doesn’t stop all the hackers but I have only been teleported once in the last few days. One hacker did manage to spawn some sort of AA gun and shoot us down on a server, but I won’t complain because it was evening and the light show before death was amazing.
How do you find these mythical servers? Seriously, I’ve probably been on 50 plus servers in the last week and I can count three where I didn’t see towns on fire or get killed out in the middle of nowhere prone under a pine tree or just your typical mass kill with 15-20 death notices all at once.
This morning I played for ten minutes and made it to the backside of Belota Tower while battling horrendous glitches in the video and even with having to dc several times to reset the video It was one of the better game plays of the week.
To be honest it seems EU/AU servers are by far the best with admins on. If I load a server I look in the player list for a player with admin next to their name. I will make a list tomorrow and post here of the servers I have used recently without a hack attack.
I’m not going to be available to do much organizing for a while yet. If someone else gets something going, I may be able to drop in for an hour or two here and there, but I just won’t have time to do what I was doing before.
So someone else is going to have to step up and start yelling at people and also shooting teammates.
I’ve just started playing so I assume I’m doing something wrong.
But I haven’t found jack shit in any of the small towns. A little better luck in the cities. Most of the houses are not enterable and the ones that are have nothing but empty cans and other junk.
I’ve barely seen another player. Which I’m not surprised as it seems like you could put a batalion of players on the map and never find each other. I think someone did shoot me from a mile away with a sniper rifle though. I might have just fallen downs some stairs.
And I did see a helicopter once.
Seriously though. I can find a hatchet and some medicine easily enough, but where are people getting cars, ghillie suits, silenced assault weapons and all the other accoutrements of kicking ass? The entire game feels like walking between major the points of interest on a big Fallout 3 map.
I’ve been server hopping looking for players who are admins. Been avoiding ppl completely. Still no kills to my credit but plenty of zombies.
I haven’t found any of those things, msmith, no need for any but a M9SD would be nice for sneaking around towns. Low pop servers are my bread and butter. Just got a bunch of mags for my AKS 74U and am about to try my luck getting some nvg goggles at the Stary tents. Fingers crossed, that’s about the only rare item I’m interested in.
Passed up an m14cco SD because it would be dead weight the way I play. ak and a 1911 is the best combo for survival imho. Since I’ve been scrutinizing the player names before I enter a server I haven’t run into any hackers.
My latest activity that gives me joy is getting a toolbox and removing all the barriers ppl put around popular places like tents, supermarkets, hospitals, etc. It’s more fun to me than it probably should be:)
I hear people say, “what’s the fun in that”? Well, I guess I’d rather cap a bunch of zombies and make the day easier for someone else than kill other players. To each his own, eh?
That’s the beauty of the game. You can play however you like.
I sort of got the hang of it now. But not to the extend of these guys with their helicopter air-assaulting into towns.
MikeG - I’ve seen those weird graphic glitches as well. Increasing the 3D resolution in the Options setting seemed to cure them.
So last night I had a bunch of firsts. I was making my way towards a pond to refill when I spot a tent and a motorcycle!
back up, circle around sneaky sneaky Gollum like and it’s deserted. THe tent had not much, a blood bag, epi pen, and a couple bandages. I left him two blood bags as a goodwill gesture and took off on the bike.
The bike went to my head, I was tooling around the fields N of Stary and eastwards and came across two crashed helis! The first one I just zoomed past as I had sworn not to go near such sniper bait. The second one I circled and drove right up to throwing caution to the wind. There were no zombies!
…until I got off the bike then ten spawned and rushed me. I had most of my ak mags in my backpack so I took quite a beating by the time I got back to the bike and rode off…right into a hail of bullets. Miraculously they missed me but I was bleeding bad so I just hit the gas and got the hell outta dodge.
By the time I found a safe place to stop and bandage I was down to 4500 blood. I then putt putted around slowly trying to find a cow but there was nothing. It got weird, I found a cow, shot it and it just disappeared before I could guy it. Next pig same thing. next pig was acting strangely running along the tree line then disappeared. By this time I am deep in the woods and I hear a heli bearing down on my position so I wussed out and hopped. Next server the animals were working just fine so I had a bunch of steaks and am feeling much better now.
Going to check out the NE airfield next. I am on the hunt for an Alice pack, another morphine, a gps would be nice but the map seems to work just fine. NVG would be the cherry on top. Oh a coyote pack would be nice as well. I just need more storage space.
PS, on US2724 draw a line between Pik Kozlova and the power plant - just W of the road headed N out of Elektro there’s a tent camp with barbed wire on the S, W, and E sides. I walked past a couple days ago and there was someone in there so I split without making a scene. There was food and soda littering the ground on the N side of the camp, felt very ambushy so I avoided it.
I tried playing a bit at night. It is fucking DARK. Not like Battlefield or Call of Duty where it’s like “movie dark” where you can see just as well, except everything has a dark blue tint. It’s more like “let me pop this road flare so every zombie and asshole with a sniper rifle within 3 klicks can zero in on my freakin head” scary dark.
I was walking around the woods with my flashlight near the airstrip in the south when I accidently fired off a round from my pistol. I nearly crapped myself waiting to see if someone or something heard it!
**SenorBeef **- That video you posted with those guys with the nighttime bus ride to their secret fight club hideout was pretty badass. I thought they were going to freakin rape that dude Deliverance style!
For the second time in a week I’ve spawned in the Debug Forest, with no gear. And of course this happens once I’m all set up with gear and near where I wanted to be. Pisses me off.
msmith, try increasing the gamma in your video settings. That really helped me to see at night.
Actually I like that nighttime is realistic dark. It’s just impossible to play in when starting out with no equipment.
I haven’t quite got to the point where I can create a sustainable character. I can get my hands on an AK, medical supplies and a zombie hatchet easily enough. Food continues to be a problem though. The game really captures the joy of not starving to death because you spent the last hour sneaking around some zombie infested city looking for the last can of sardines.
I read somewhere that the average player lifespan is like 30 minutes. I guess everything thinks they’re going to be Mad Max after the apocalypse. No one thinks they’re going to be the dork who gets beaten to death by Master Blaster in the Thuderdome.
I just wanted to say that you guys make this sound fun, but I bought Arma II on steam last night and spent 6 or 7 hours playing Dayz today, and I kind of think it sucks. Either you spend a real-time hour sloooowly crouching and proning to get a can of pepsi, or you walk or run through a town and aggro 50,000 zombies who just won’t stop chasing you, and you die. IMO you just spend too much time walking, the world feels too empty - mostly building you can’t enter, building you can enter have one can in them. In 7 hours I found exactly one gun - an enfield, and probably 5 or 6 hatchets.
I loved Skyrim, I like Call of Duty but felt like the maps on MW3 and Black ops were mostly too small, but I dislike this quite a bit.
Jacob, download DayzCommander and try Lingor Island. Watch some of the tutorials. Basically you dont have to crawl. Find out which buildings have more than one entrance; when Zs are after you, go in one door at a run, then out the back door take a turn and slow crouch away. The Z should be busy looking for you in the building.
Or head for groups of pine trees on a treeline. Lose the line of sight then hug a pine tree at an angle to where you were running. wait a sec then crouch away. It’ actually pretty easy. Remember, at a run the Zs can never catch up with you even on a road.
I was pissed at the game for a while like you then got angry at the hackers. Now im enjoying it more.
