I’ve been staying with my mother for about 6 months now. This arrangement was supposed to be only for the summer, after I graduated from college. It has obviously stretched a bit beyond the original timeframe, because at the end of the summer, the job I had been working at ended and it took me another month to find another one, thus no income for that month, plus my car died so I had to buy another one, wiping out the money I had saved for a place.
Now I’ve gotten another job, so I can now afford to move out. The problem is, I need to do it ASAP. My mom and stepdad have been great, letting me stay here for so long, but things have become VERY uncomfortable. I don’t really think they’re doing it intentionally, but lots of things they are doing are causing me to feel I’ve overstayed my welcome.
I’m asking around and checking the ads, but I thought I’d throw it out here too. If anyone knows of someone in the NoVa area, specifically Fairfax County and thereabouts, who is looking for a roomate or has a room to rent, please let me know. If you just want to come in and pat me on the head, that’s fine too. Thanks all.
I’d offer you the other bed in my room at college, but:
My roommate comes back every once in a while, and he might mind.
The five other guys I live with might get just a TAD . . . well, not nervous, but probably entirely too horny. And with the flood from upstairs that we had last week, I don’t want another flood on this floor.
It’s a college apartment. It’s classified as swampland. If GMU tore the things down they wouldn’t be allowed to rebuild them.
Parking ain’t free.
This thing called noise level . . . it’s a bitch.
I keep really, bizarrely, I-can’t-tell-you-when-I’m-going-to-sleep-because-I-don’t-know hours.
I’m in Greenbelt, right now, in a temporary arrangement and I’d love to find an affordable place in Northern VA. I know little about you, Geobabe, but we appear to be around the same age, and if we post on here, that’s at least one cool thing we have in common.
I should mention, since SNenc brought it up, that I was a “non-traditional” aged student, so I’m rather older than your typical recent college grad, in case it matters. I’ve met so many of the DC Dopers that I forget that not everyone knows my shameful little secret.
Geobabe, you could move in with me, except I live in an efficiency (although it has a small space with a door that could technically be called a bedroom, although it’s more of a bedcloset). Also, I live in Old Town Alexandria, which doesn’t meet your Fairfax County requirement.
You shoulda caught me last year when I had the Springfield townhouse off Old Keene Mill Road and the lowlife druggie roommates I was trying to bounce.
