So here’s my story: I’m planning to leave the DC area in early July to go live with my sweetie in Miami for a while before we get married --I had been planning to leave in September, but for various reasons, that date has been moved up. The lease on my apartment is supposed to be up on June 2, and I had planned to go stay with my mother for the month before I leave, to save a bit of money for the move and the wedding.
Unfortunately, I have run afoul of a clause in my lease that requires us to give 60 days notice before moving out. Now the lease has been extended to July 9. This is where we start to run into problems. One roommate has already moved out. Another is an illegal sublet who is leaving on June 1, and the gal whose name is still on the lease is going to be none too pleased to find she’s liable for another month-plus worth of rent. I could stay, but I’d rather not, for the saving-money reason I already mentioned.
So what I’m trying to do is find at least two, and preferably three people to move in and take over the lease. The new residents can sign a new one year lease. This is a really great apartment, and the rent is a deal. One of the previous residents negotiated with the leasing office, and the rent is below the listed amount for this apartment.
Details: The apartment is in Summit Fair Lakes, which is right off the Fairfax County Parkway just north of I-66. Community amenities include pool, weight room, basketball (half) court, clubhouse with meeting rooms and a movie theater (seriously! it’s a 20-something seat little theater with a VCR and projection screen. Very cool.) and business center with computers and printers. Pets are allowed. Free parking.
The apartment is a 3-bedroom, with DW, W/D in the unit, AC, cable and internet already hooked up. Details and floor plan. The total rent is $1591 (list is $1755 - 1815), and we had been splitting the rent proportional to the room size, so for the master bedroom it would be $576, the second bedroom is $517, and the third room is $498. The master is available right now, second on 6/1, and I’m in the third, so I can go any time between now and the end of June.
