Ok; if anyone sets themselves up with a PS3 copy look me up on No Man’s Land (PVP). I’ll be on as a villain; Doctor Improbable.
I’ve been playing since release, and I pretty much feel the way a lot of you do - overall, it’s a good game with good design, but some pretty serious bugs. The sound thing drives my husband up a wall - he’s got surround sound on his system, but the back speakers died, so he’s turned off surround sound for most programs, and is just using the front speakers and an excessively large subwoofer. Well, there’s no way to turn off surround sound for the game - it’s on and it’s always on.
The thing that’s caused me to rage-quit twice has been boss doors. My husband, brother-in-law and I frequently play together, and if one of them enters a boss room before us, a door will close to lock the others out when the cutscene starts. It doesn’t teleport you into the room, or let you come in after, or anything else that would make sense. It just leaves the person out in the hallway. At first, we thought maybe it was just something weird with the Bane fight, but then it happened in other instances, too. It’s really a pretty incomprehensible design decision that detracts significantly from game enjoyment.
My biggest issue so far has been voice chat - buggy as hell.
I love that name.
Wow that sucks. I haven’t group for an instance yet but I hope that’s just a bug and not a design feature.
Since it’s happened on several different missions, we’re pretty sure it’s a design feature. Our only thought is that it’s something that makes things run better for the PS3 stuff, because it just doesn’t make sense on the PC.
So if I understand what you wrote, only the mission holder gets to see the cut scene?
Well I got a game pad on Friday to try playing the game with that instead of the mouse/keyboard. I got a Logitech F310 and at first I didn’t like it. Besides the Wii I haven’t played console games using a game pad in years so it was a bit awkward but after a while my fingers remembered how to use one and it got a lot better.
It takes longer to go through menus, inventory, powers etc. but I like the actual gameplay better with the game pad. With all the button mashing, tap, tap hold etc. it feels better to me than a mouse keyboard combo.
The game instantly recognized the game pad as soon as I hit a button and the game shows you which button to hit to exit a menu or to accept something so that was really nice. Also I found out that you can instantly switch between the game pad and keyboard/mouse. If you’re using the game pad and then click with the mouse or hit a button on the keyboard then the game automatically switches over to the keyboard and vice cersa so I thought that was pretty cool.
Controls on the PC are harsh. I may need to snag a gamepad.
I’ve been playing on the gamepad since Friday and it is my preferred way to play DCU now. My only problem with it is doing the flying “races” where you have a minute or so to fly a route through the rings. It’s nearly impossible for me to beat the times on the gamepad. So I just switch over to the mouse/keyboard and do the race and then I switch back to the gamepad.
I have to say again that I love that you don’t have to reboot the game to switch between the mouse/keyboard and the gamepad. They really thought that one through.
I’m tryng to use my PS3 gamepad on my PC, but it just won’t recognize it.
Adding a Gamepad in the mix makes this game go from a C+ to an A-, easy.
