Actually, that’s the way we staff felt about it, too. He definitely needs some time out. We were not really impressed by his explanation, either. Whether he comes back or not depends on quite a few things, which I’m not going to get into right now.
Anthracite was never truly banned, she asked to have her posting privileges removed for reasons of her own, and which I am not free to divulge. I made a big mistake in putting the BANNED label under her name, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I goofed up big time.
A question (for dcnewsman, Olentzero, and anyone else who was there): was SqrlCub at Lunch Bunch on Friday?
And Mark, if he was (or if you’d seen him anytime Friday), I wish you’d mentioned that in your first post to the Creepy thing happened this morning thread. It would have calmed a few nerves.
SqrlCub did show up at the Lunch Bunch on the 2nd with dcnewsman, and as a matter of fact informed me of what he had done earlier that morning. I kind of brushed it off without thinking about it and went back to work. Unfortunately I’ve been trying to cut out the serious slacking at work since it’s come to the attention of my boss, and so the little drama played out longer than it should have because I was trying to stay off the boards.
I don’t know what sort of accountability this renders me in the incident, but if I had known exactly what was going on that day I would definitely have come in and cleared up the mystery.
Now that makes no sense to me, Olentzero. No matter how many posts someone has here on the boards, if that person for whatever reason does not check the boards one day and misses out on something important/alarming/horrible/whatever, why the hell should they be held acocuntable for not checking in?
I understand that the situation with SqrlCub was different, though I don’t personally agree with the seriousness of the retribution. But seeing you suggest that maybe you were remiss in not posting to appease worried Dopers seems ridiculous to me. Reactions on the boards are notoriously unpredictable, and I for one would never have guessed the level of anxiety he generated from an OP that seemed very Raven-esque to me.
I was asking both you and dcnewsman whether Sqrl had been there. That part was purely a request for information, and I included you since you had presumably been there, and would know.
I was asking dcnewsman (and only him) why, when he posted to the thread late Friday night, he didn’t mention that he’d seen Sqrl since Sqrl’s scary OP on Friday morning, considering the level of worry that was already being expressed. Instead, he posted, just before midnight:
“I last saw him at lunch today” would have been very appropriate, in this context.
Why the fuck would he have mentioned the possibility of break-in or struggle, if he merely hadn’t seen Sqrl since lunch, and knew that Sqrl had been alive, well, and apparently unshaken, several hours after the OP? Except to further Sqrl’s hoax?
Mark, I like you and Ellis both, but I for one would appreciate some answers.
