Carey Grant, Jimmy Stewart, and of course, Marilyn Monroe.
Phil Hartman is my number one missed celebrity. But if I catch an A&E Biography on John Belushi, Gilda Radner, or River Phoenix I get sad all over again.
While I was watching High Anxiety the other day, it struck me just how much I miss Madeline Kahn. What a subtly funny gal.
Chris Farley
I second that.
I third Chris Farley. He died on my birthday too.
Right on Dijon! For me there will never be another Holmes. If he’d only have lived long enough to complete the canon…
Richard Farnsworth
Grace Kelly
River Phoenix
Oh yeah… Steve McQueen as well. The guy was cool.
I’ll fourth Chris Farley.
Also add me to the list of people who miss John Candy and Phil Hartman. Some of comedy’s funniest men left this earth too soon.
Mr. Rogers will also be missed for a long time to come. He helped to shape my young mind and the minds of many other people and contributed much to their growing up.
Jim Henson.
Marty Feldman
Peter Sellers
River Phoenix
John Belushi
John Candy
And more than I realized, John Ritter
Warren Oates, who died way too young at the age of 54.
John Lennon
Chris Farley is just such a shame to have a guy so brilliant waste his life like that.
Yul Brenner Handsome man, talented actor.
Steve McQueen the epitome of a cool man’s, cool man.
You could nominate scores of actors who died young, or died a little older but were not employed in the industry because there attributes were no longer required. John Gilbert and Greta Garbo spring to mind- and of course Jean Harlow. But a lot of their styles were outdated anyway- who would really want to see a Three Stooges movie today?
For me- Peter Lorre- when he was at his best.
Hardly original but:-
Cary Grant
Jimmy Stewart
Katherine Hepburn - an absolute legend, much missed.
Clarke Gable (sigh!)
And a British actor who’ll mean nothing to most of you, but holds a special place in the hearts of most Brits - John Thaw.
Phil Hartman, undoubtedly.
River Phoenix
Charlotte Coleman
Strangely, I miss Lorne Greene. He is why I became so interested in animals when he had Lorne Greene’s New Wilderness.
I miss John Ritter VERY much. He was my favoite actor and Three’s Company my all-time favorite show. I’m not afraid to say I cried when I found out and BAWLED while watching the Tribute Show last night.
Gilda Radner was hysterical. I loved Rosanna Rosanna Dana.
I also really enjoyed when she played “Lisa” She and Gene Wilder made a great couple.
Madeline Kahn. Whatever movie she played in, she lit up the screen. I especially enjoyed her bits with Harvey Korman. They would make eachother laugh when they wern’t supposed to. Trying to contain their laughter was hysterical.
John Candy wasn’t a great actor but was fun to watch.
John Belushi was a great physical comedy actor. I don’t think he was destined to go on to higher fame though. I think he reached his pinnacle. I think he would have just phased out. His brother Jim is working hard at being an actor. I’m not sure I find his characters believable. He is certainly no John.
JT Walsh was just a brilliant brilliant actor. Instantly bringing credibility to a filmdue to his stature.
Just look at some of the films he’s been in.
