Dead Man Laughing: Thai Prison Break

This article in The Australian, Drug Runner a Dead Man Laughing, is about an Aussie drug runner who was on death row in Thailand until he escaped 11 years ago. He’s sitting in England now, freely admitting his crimes, and no one can touch him. Hope he realizes how luck he is.

BTW: The bit at the beginning about being “in a Thai jail awaiting death by hanging” is wrong. Hanging has never been used in Thailand. In olden days, it was by beheading by sword. At the time of this guy’s incarceration, it was by machinegun. (Yes, machinegun, but it was not as messy as it sounds; just a round into the heart.) Now they use lethal injection.

A more local story on him that gives a bit more detail is here. It’s by Andrew drummond, a Bangkok-based Brit reporter who’s a Times of London correspondent. The drug runner’s book, Escape, seems to be selling well. Maybe I should pick up a copy.

Damn, interesting story but I will refuse to give him my money. Maybe I can steal it from somewhere. I have morals y’see.

Better yet, steal his drugs and sell them yourself.
