Dead Space 2

OK…this game is seriously messed up!

I finally figured out what I had to do. Being in a straightjacket was a hindrance for sure! I also am not yet used to the PS3’s controls. Using the right analog stick to constantly change my view instead of a mouse is going to take some practice. I’m not used to that at all, and it hinders me a lot.

I made it to (I think) the third or fourth save point. I don’t have a suit yet but have the plasma cutter, a flashlight and the ability to stomp and punch, as well as use the “go this way” illuminator.

Wow, how gory and creepy is this damn thing!

I stand corrected (now that you mention it I do remember running). It’s just that you run quite slowly at this part of the game. Getting a suit gives a nice boost to your walking speed, and a smaller boost to your running speed.

Edit: Recorded a short gameplay clip last night. These are the most ‘challenging’ baddies I’ve encountered so far, due to their sneaking around and moving fast while exposed - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmwSk7JkLDs

I hate those fuckers. Especially since they cheat! I tried going back to the room’s entrance ramp (behind the chain-link fence) to target them from above, but as soon as you cross behind the fence, the enemies enter ‘retreat’ mode and run away, never to be seen again unless you step back into the main room again. You can still hear them running around and making noises–they just don’t actually do any of that stuff.

The worst part is that, even if you’ve stasis on one of the enemies, they’ll instantly revert back to normal and flee as soon as you cross this barrier. This part was rather cheap and disappointing–why couldn’t the enemies simply follow me back up the ramp (like they would in RE4, one of my favorite games).

I still found an exploit though. As soon as you step forward, the enemies always follow the same pattern to get at you, making it extremely easy to Ripsaw one to death, backup behind the fence to reset them, then step forward again to repeat the process.

Hmmm. I have made some tweaks so that mouse acceleration is entirely turned off in Windows, making mouse movement increments relate to pixels on a 1:1 basis. It helps for graphics work as well. I wonder if the game overrides this and adds more acceleration.

Damn, that last weapon you were using is awesome! What was that thing?

And this game is super-creepy. Right now I have a plasma cutter, a flashlight and a few credits (and no suit). I’m afraid to go downstairs and fire it back up!

That right-stick camera view thing really trips me up on the PS3, especially when things get frantic. I’m just not used to it yet. I find I’m often looking at the floor while some creature behind me is tearing me to shreds.

[totally tangent] My son (who has appeared on the SDSAB as “Son of Dex”) was involved in the writing of Dead Space 2.[/proud dad]

That’s excellent. Disturbing as hell, but excellent. Tell him there’s at least one doper who appreciates his work.

ETA: Did he write the text log where the Unitologists assess the earnings potential from someone attending their sessions? Because as a former next door neighbor of the church the Unitologists are obviously based on, I laughed out loud at that.

Tell him there’s at least one doper who appreciates his work.He doesn’t remember exactly whatwho did, he was mostly involved in story and dialog, but he did write the “Unitology and You” recruitment video. He said it was a hoot…
