Deadliest Catch Captain Phil Harris dead after a stroke

Aw, rats.

Condolences to his family. Josh and Jake must be devastated, but I’m glad they had a few days between his stroke and his passing.

RIP.
:frowning:

That sucks. He was by far my favorite captain and I wished he had some more seasons to go fishing with his sons.

Crud. Interesting guy on an interesting show.

It showed through on the series that Phil was a good guy.

There is something very … Zen … about that show. I can’t get enough of it.

Prepare, work as hard as you’ve ever worked, overcome incredible hardships, cast your hopes into the depths, and sometimes you pull up success; sometimes failure. Then repeat.

If you explain to people who’ve never watched it or don’t get it that you can watch a marathon of this show for like 10 hours in a row and enjoy every minute of it, they look at you as if you’re crazy.

:frowning: That’s so sad…I really feel for his family, especially his sons. It sucks to lose your dad when he’s that young.

Working on crab boats since he was 7 years old, a captain at 21… Damn…

Godspeed, Phil.

He had a great story on one of the “After the Catch” specials, where they gather a bunch of captains together at a bar to reminisce. In high school in the 70’s, he was skipping school a lot to go fishing. His guidance counselor was always on him to “do more with your life.” At one of their meetings, Phil asked him “You’re selling your house, aren’t you? How much are you asking?” The counselor told him $50,000, so Phil pulled out a paper bag, emptied 50k in cash on his desk, and told him “That’s what I made on my last trip.”

Awesome.

To me he seemed least effected by the cameras and the fame and he was the biggest reason I watched. He was a man - hair on and few apologies for it - and he will be missed for years to come. Like they say on the TDC tribute, safe passage Phil.

RIP, Cap’n
