Having worked as a commercial fisherman and having met Phil and his sons, I would like to pay my respects here.
I know many people here have watched and enjoyed the Deadliest Catch and I want to pass this along.
Phil Harris was a good man and loved his sons, and his crew very much.
It was his experience with the blood clots that made me recognize the symptoms my husband was having last October. My husband was about as bad a hospital patient as Phil was as well. Less swearing though.
Very sad news. After seeing his health issues from the season before, I was so scared that something like this would happen. Capt. Phil was the real deal. I’d love to see pics from his younger days. You can tell he was super handsome! Condolences to his family and crew.
So I was at a picnic a couple of years ago and I was mingling amongst friends and strangers. All of a sudden, a friend of a friend, who I’d never met before came up to me and said, “Holy shit, you look just like Captain Phil on Deadliest Catch!”
That was right before I shaved and went on a diet.
Damn. Can’t say that health problems were unexpected from him, but I was hoping he’d beat the odds until he had this stroke. He and his crew were one of the main reasons I liked watching the show, and I hope they figure out a good solution to who’s going to skipper the boat. Thanks for letting us take a peek into your life and work, man.
I was so saddened to read about this. I am a fan of DC, and Captain Phil is one of the reasons. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy and my condolences go out to his family.
My husband got me into watching DC a few years ago and Phil was my favorite. I loved his banter with his sons and they were lucky to have him as a dad.
I’m sad for the family. Fifty three is way too young to die.
Used to be I fiercely and deliberately avoided all types of reality shows - I was stubbornly sure I just didn’t like the genre. But about a year ago Deadliest Catch re-runs hooked me one boring Sunday afternoon and opened the floodgates, even if only a little.
Captain Phil was definitely my favorite and 53 is way to young. RIP.
