Man, that is pretty wild. I spent an evening photographing a family(?) of 10 goats at Logan Pass years ago. I made a point of keeping my distance, but they were determined to browse the vegetation where I was sitting. I tried to be as still as possible, and they made their way past me as if I wasn’t there.
Not that it makes a huge difference, but it’s Olympic National Park, not Glacier.
:smack:
Of course! That explains it…the goats at Glacier are well known for having better temperaments!
Don’t mess with stuff with big ole’ horns an stuff!
(I enjoyed 3 consecutive days at Logan this summer. One was hot, the next cool, and it snowed the third! No wonder the wildlife is pissed!)
So they’re not native to the area? I say–Goat Meat!
Are hikers native to the area of the park?
The Blackfeet Indians were there long before the goats were.
The goats were apparently introduced to the park some time ago according to the news article. It asserts the goats damaged the park’s vegetation and recently the Park Service tried to fly them out, but later ceased the Big Move.
In this particular case, I don’t believe the goats should be in Glacier NP.
In all seriousness I’m amenable to suggestions that non-native species be eradicated in some cases. I just don’t think killing a person interloping in the wilderness is a good reason for it.
