It’s not that he’s a complete wanker. That can be tolerated. It’s that he’s incompetent, corrupt, dishonest, and mean to a level never seen before. Supportting such a man disqualifies a person from being my friend. I would be friends with a member of the KKK. I won’t be friends with MAGA
I have one friend who’s a Trump supporter. Ironically, she is African-American while I am “European”. Our friendship survives because we never, ever talk about politics. She’s also very religiously conservative in some ways: homophobic. When she expressed the view that trans people were completely defective human beings, I shared with her that I had a close relative who had just transitioned. She just nodded her head and accepted that, thankfully without any further comment. We moved on.
I actually treasure that friendship because we have some other things in common, all the more because there’s this political rift and I refuse to label everyone as “the enemy”. Don’t ask, don’t tell.
I’ve never been so careful to adhere to basic courtesies as I am now. It takes a special kind of person to object to a simple “Good morning” and if that’s all there ever is, it’s better than open violence.
Fighting Ignorance Since 1973. The first thing that I noticed when I arrived at this site and joined is that everyone is so darned smart, here. Wow. WOW! …so smart. It reminds me of a commenter at another site that I frequent (…BTW, I don’t frequent this site). That commenter’s username is “mensa”. LOL You talk about smart! One thing that I have learned over the years is that no matter how high the I.Q., common sense usually prevails and has nothing to do with I.Q.
Now, regarding Trump supporter/friends, I get along okay with them but, like any friend who is actually a friend, there is usually a bond of common respect between two individuals that consider themselves friends. You know what they say? Politics and Religion are usually off limits when having discussions between friends.
If your name was slandered and your life threatened; if you became President of the United States and there were three attempts on your life in the first three years of your Presidency; If from even before you became President, scurrilous stories were circulated about you, not by the tabloids but, by the MSM who, as a whole, seemed to have a vendetta against you; if it seemed you couldn’t have a “normal” new conference at the White House, once you became President because the major Media Reps seemed so contentious that you had to dismiss them for their lack of civility; if you were accused, even before taking the oath of office, of “collusion” and for two years your opponents were frothing at the mouth to have a Special Council find “the real dirt” on you and then they didn’t get what they anticipated, How would you handle yourself? LOL
Yeah. Right.
Have you ever met a person that seemed so arrogant and sure of themselves that they were obnoxious? Just curious.
I know. I entered the wrong echo chamber. I did this once before at a different Leftist Web Site and was very disappointed that no one wish to reason. I read the other comments before adding my two cents. Most of them were only one cent in worth. Many generalizations with few facts and a lot of hearsay. It seems that is what drives the Party that lost in 2016.
Could you elaborate on this? It’s the first time I’ve heard of attempts on the President’s life. (It’s been two years, btw, though it seems longer.)
In light of 25 years if vindictive and completely fruitless persecution of Hillary Clinton with investigation upon investigation, racist slander against Obama and an absolute refusal to cooperate with him in any form or fashion it is pretty rich to whine about how poorly Trump has been treated.
Republicans would NEVER stop investigating a democrat who cheated on all three of his wives, one with a porn star, and who may have violated US election and campaign finance laws in the process. Hell, all Bill Clinton did was get a bj in the white house and lie about it. Trump cheated on his wife and broke the law in trying to deal with it. Do you really think he should get a pass there after all of the years of screaming about Bill?

Oh, and that’s just a start. What if Obama had deals with hostile countries and lied about it? What if Obama admitted to firing people that where investigating them? What if Obama refused to release his tax returns? I could go on.
Republicans are the most hypocritical people on the planet. THEY OWN that badge. And have earned it. It will take a long, long time to get rid of it. The entire GOP must be redefined. From the top down. Trump is not a Republican. Nor are those that support an asshole gameshow host and crook.
I’m lucky that I only have some Trump supporters on my Wife’s side of the family. They seem to not want to discuss Trump anymore. They live at least a thousand miles away, so it doesn’t come up much.
By definition, I have no friends who are Trump supporters. Mutually exclusive. I do, however, have relatives who are Trump supporters. But they are not friends, nor do I associate with them.

The man is, objectively, a liar and a crook. What’s more, I often work in the NYC construction industry. This was common knowledge LONG before he was elected.
