Dear Applicant, just ONE follow-up call is enough!

In college I lived in a dorm with a girl who would wake everyone up at 4:30 AM when she couldn’t stand it anymore to ask which underwear she should wear that day. (And no, this was not hot.)

Damn, I have OCD and the closest I ever came to that was when a friend of mine went on vacation, another friend and I called her answering machine everyday and left funny, silly messages. (We were all about 12, 13 at the time)

I have a one call rule for everyone whether it’s a potential date or employer. I’ll call once and leave a message, and if you never call me back, then we’ll never speak again. What is wrong with some people?

It seems that there are slightly different schools of thought on what “no calls” means when posted in an ad. To me, I have always taken this to mean that the employer is firm on their method of resume/application submission – it’s spelled out in the ad that they want you to email it to X, or submit it online at X, or mail it to X, and that they feel confident in conveying that, so you shouldn’t be calling to ask about applying. “No calls” to me means “if you call, we’re just going to direct you to the website spelled out in the ad.”

Some seem to feel that “no calls” means “after you submit your documents, don’t call us. If we want you, we’ll call you, but don’t call to follow up or anything.”

Swallowed My Cellphone, if you want me to fuck off and start my own IMHO thread rather than hijack yours, then I will.
