Like speed traps?
Don’t get me wrong. I know there are plenty of officers who are out there everyday working hard to protect society. But you know as well as anyone that many police departments across the country have serious image problems due to corruption, bias, abuses of power, and the thin blue line. Get rid of your own “shiftless meatbags” and start focusing more on public safety than making money and maybe your argument will sound a little less pot/kettle.
We had a situation about 5 years ago. Some people were complaining about speeding on the Truman Parkway. The police set up radar there and snagged over 100 drivers (myself included). The police went on to brag about how they were keeping the streets safe from speeders. Other than regular patrols, they have not been back to that road (which has a 55mph limit, but speeds can reach 75-80).
We have a few red light cameras, too.
The thing that upsets me most about speedtraps is that they are almost exclusively set up in areas where the speed limit is set well below the legitimate safe driving limit (divided highways, major thoroughfares) where the risks of accidents is relatively low and there are very few pedestrians.
If the police really wanted to keet the streets safe from speeders, they’d set up in residential and other areas where there is a heavy pedestrian presence or other major accident risk factor. Not the freeway with no traffic at 1 in the afternoon.
Anyway, I’ll stop threadjacking now. Back to that scourge of society, alarm systems…
Is this for burglar or fire?
Because I have to say, burglar alarms calling the cops serves no purpose.
Fire alarms… great idea.
Burglars don’t hang around long, and by the time the cops show up, they’ve been gone anyway.
The little screamy things on the burglar alarms might work to deter burglars, but calling the cops only permits the cops to show up in time to take a report.
F* you, ADT, for taking peoples’ money by scaring them into thinking your product has any use except for fire.
