I can only speak for myself, of course, but any respect I might have had for him evaporated when he made that untrue “the 9/11 perps were safely based in Montreal” statement and, after a few fruitless attempts to stretch definitions beyond all reason so his claim might vaguely, possibly, sorta-could-be-true (i.e. a guy who might’ve known one or two of the hijackers had briefly lived in Montreal but had to flee from law enforcement), simply vanished from the discussion without an apology or admission of error.
pinkyvee: I understand your feeling. I’m not that thrilled with Obama. I’ve been wondering if a McCain victory might not be so bad. And yet, I have to remind myself not to be so disappointed by my side that I fail to see the equivalent flaws on the other side (with whom I don’t even agree!). I’m afraid you’re being suckered. The point is not who better plays the candidate game. The point is which party’s policies guide lawmaking for the next eight years.
I have many friends who were Hillary supporters, and although I have been an Obama supporter pretty much from Day One, if Hillary had won the Primary, I too would be rallying around her. I have said so in my posts from months ago.
Of those friends who supported Hillary, many were women. Yes, they were disappointed that Hillary didn’t win. However, every single one of those women laughed out loud when they saw the pathetic credentials that Palin has brought to the table. They have pointed out that even the Republicans had far better women to choose from than Palin, and agree this was simply a last-minute gimmick by McCain.
The good news is, every one of those women has now found a very good reason to rush back into the Democratic fold and support Obama. As my good, female friend Shannon, a staunch Hillary supporter from NYC, put it, “Hey, I am not stupid enough to think that just having tits makes you a good candidate, and this clueless bimbo proves it beyond a doubt.”
Assuming any of this bullshit about being a woman Democrat and switching to McCain because of some perceived notion of sexism is actually true, I can only go by my circle of female friends and say no one else has been that easily duped.
Are you posting as a mod or a member? Looks to me like a little bit of each. If as an ordinary member, why the ‘are you claiming to be ElvisL1ves’, if a mod, why the two uses of the word stupid? Aren’t people allowed to freely vote for whomever they wish, for whatever reason they wish? Last time I looked this was a free country.
Sure, and if they post the reasons for their vote on a public discussion board to make a point, they can expect criticism. Especially if their reasons are so poorly thought out as hers.
When did anyone say anything about preventing her from voting as she wants?
Purely as a poster. I am well aware that pinkyvee is not ElvisL1ves, but that poster reponded as if the comment about ElvisL1ves had been made regarding her. I was simply pointing out that her response to a point not aimed at her seemed odd.
As to the use of the word stupid, still posting as a poster I gave voice to my opinion. I have seen several posters claim that the supporters of one candidate or another have behaved so badly that they “almost” thought of switching their vote and I have seen a couple of posters claim to have made a vote switch (or a vote decision) based on the whole direction of the campaigns, which would include supporter actions as one facet of many, (and several of the posters in question are not even U.S. citizens, so the point regarding Obama or McCain would be moot). I have not (yet) seen any poster express the idea that their entire vote would swing on the behavior of supporters. Therefore, calling that particular action stupid should not be construed as an insult toward any poster.
As to the freedom to vote for whom one wishes, regardless of the reasons, that is true–one has the freedom to behave that way. On the other hand, I have the freedom to point out that I find voting for or against a person based on hair style or well or poorly matched clothing–or because some third party behaved in a particular way–stupid.
PinkyVee, I’m glad you started this thread. Hillary is a woman and it is not fair to criticise her to the same degree as men. She is from the weaker sex and needs to be protected. Many people were mean to her and said nasty things and made her cry. It’s too bad there is not someone running even more right wing and wacko than McCain/Palin so I could vote for them to show my support for Hillary and all she stands for.
Thank you for your comments. I feel less stupid already !
‘I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me.’
“I believe that Barack Obama with MoveOn.org, and Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean have taken the Democratic Party too far to the left,” she said. “I’m not comfortable there.”
So now you’re changing your story to say that the Democrats suddenly got too liberal for you after you supported Obama in the Primary? Obama actually moved back to the middle after the Primary.
What happened to your story that the horrible liberal media was sliming Hillary? Now you’re just going to pivot and “me too” this snooty baroness who actually has the nerve to say that a guy who grew up on foodstamps and doesn’t have a 10th of her wealth is too “elitist” for her? Is that the best you can do? You now think Barack Obama is “too elitist” after you supported him in the Primaries?
Probably not even 1/100th. Apparently, her husband sold his stake in the family bank for a rumored $600 million a few years back, and she’d already made $100 million of her own before the marriage.
As far as I can tell, though, she isn’t actually a baroness. Her husband’s cousin inherited the family’s barony, and I can’t find any evidence of a life peerage under either Rothschild or Forrester.
