Dear fuckstick: you aren't a doctor, so STFU.

He’s a bouncer, they would have to retrain him after each coffee break.

Stupid, but not illegal. An employer doesn’t have to make accommodations except for employees who have asked for one indicating in some way that they need the accommodation in order to work and that it’s due to a disability. The employer can require documentation about the need for the accommodation. Even in the case of a service animal, you are allowed to ask what task the animal performs- and “comfort” or “emotional support” animals don’t count.

Now this might not be legal if it was a DMV or some other government office open to the general public, but it was open to employees only. Still stupid to require a formal ADA request to push a button.

I understand now. I thought the door was for the public. I didn’t realize it was for the employees. Yeah, that’s stupid. There should be some procedure to issue I.D. cards to the employees they could swipe to let themselves in. I can understand having a restricted entrance for employees, but they can still let employees let themselves in while the guard stands watch.

It’s only employees who can’t open the regular door that need to be buzzed in ( the rest can just walk in through the other entrance and show their ID to another security guard ).It would be a lot easier just to let the guard hit the button for any employee waiting outside that door rather than installing a swipe system on an old building. Like I said, stupid, but management is never going to accept the blame for the system. They just let people get mad at the guards.

As I read it, they used the stairs to go up since the bouncer wouldn’t budge, then talked to the manager once they were up top, right?

No, your wife shouldn’t have to prove anything, but a little prevention can cure a lot of frustration and damaged joints. My dad has macular degeneration. He used to get frustrated going out to eat because he couldn’t read the fine print menus or hear my mom read it out in her quiet voice. I pointed out that they could check the menu at home or on the phone if it was spur of the moment. Now he knows before they get there. You might call ahead next time. Your wife might consider a medical alert bracelet which carries a certain amount of clout since most people don’t know anyone can get one. They look official. No, you shouldn’t have to, but it’s nice to have a backup plan when reality fails.

[QUOTE=Chessic Sense]
you’re a bouncer, so I understand that you barely graduated high school.

Not logical. You should be pitting that particular bouncer for being a moron, not assuming that every single person who works as a bouncer is a cretin. The last bouncer I knew personally was a student at Harvard Law School, and one of the most literate people I’ve ever met.

Don’t assume people are dumb because of the job they do. Assume they are dumb when they give you evidence that they are. This guy apparently gave you plenty.

These days the shallow trolleys are well supplied. Back when this happened they only had a few and they were marked as being for the disabled. My problems are with my hands and elbows so how they help is to reduce the distance I have to lift stuff in and out.

Theseare what we have in the UK for use with wheelchairs.

He definitely worked there and one of his jobs was collecting the trolleys from their corrals around the car park and bringing them back to their home. Because at this time there weren’t many of that type I would find myself having to wait to grab one as soon as it came back and this one guy was taking it upon himself to say who should get one. Ridiculous, and obviously why these trolleys are now plentiful.

Who says I don’t? Did you miss the OP and pretty much all the comments in this thread? This is a battle the vast majority of people will take. If your disabled loved one being treated poorly by the staff is not a good enough reason to get the manager involved, what is? If denying handicapped access, one of the very things the ADA specifically tries to prevent, is not good enough to give them a call, what is?

Choosing your battles actually involves choosing to battle sometimes, not always running away with your tail between your legs.

Heck, in this case, running away is the asshole move. Why not give the business a chance to make it up to you? Why refuse to darken the doors of a place again because of one idiot employee?

Want! And why have i never seen such carts before??

This is one of the OP’s traits.

See this abomination for verification.

Oh, him.

What’s so special about going up the stairs?
