I loved Splash as a kid, and while I certainly wasn’t clamoring for a remake I think it could be fun. Upon reading the OP I was shocked that the everyman Tom Hanks role was going to be filled by Channing Tatum of all people, but this is apparently going to be about everywoman Jillian Bell and merman Tatum. I personally find Tatum completely unappealing but I’m sure there’s an audience for a movie in which he frequently appears wet and shirtless, and swapping the gender of the leads seems at least mildly inventive/amusing.

Another example. If you’re familiar with the Hunger Games franchise, you might know that the last movie sort of ended things; the villain was killed, peace reigned throughout the land, and so forth. But they’re not going to let that stop them, as from what I hear, the studio plans a sort of prequel film.

I’d see that, IF it had the author’s participation and decent reviews. The story drops us into a strange world just before it ends, and I’m curious to see “how we got here” if that story is done well or at least plausibly.

And switching genders was received so wonderfully before people actually saw “Ghostbusters”
