Hey Gents and Ladies
Instead of participating in the usual “SDMB Christmas” gift thread, Dondra and I have decided, that, just as we did earlier this year, we would offer 2 paid memberships to the SDMB for a year.
Would it be okay with all of you if I chose the first 2 pm’s as of Christmas Eve at 7pm EDT (when we open our gifts) with THESE gifts?
Any other ideas? Please let me know in this thread, thanks!

Hey! I like Quasi’s use of y’all all the time. It’s endearingly adorable!
Oh not a problem. I don’t object to it in principle, but as someone born north of the Mason-Dixon line, I still (these many years and a long stint in North Carolina later) find that any use except for direct address makes me do a mental stumble. I think it was the “Dear” in front of it that caught me this time.
No criticism meant. My personal favorite usage is the plural possessive form as in “Is this y’all’s?” (And I hope I punctuated that correctly.)

Heh! Y’all oughta know by now, that I’m lobble (!) to write just about anything. Just depends on the way I feel at the time.

Incidentally, I’ve already chosen one recipient, but I’m having trouble gifting the membership. Hopefully we’ll have it straightened out soon.

Yikes!!! I just noticed that upthread I wrote we were gonna do this Christmas Eve, and now I’ve gone and already given one away.
Okay, I’ll just hold the other one for Christmas Eve, if that’s okay.

A man oughta do what he says he’ll do, so we’ll do 2 Christmas Eve gift memberships instead of just one.
But I’m wondering… that thing about the first pm after 7pm on Christmas Eve… that sounds like, “I’ll take the 7th caller!..”, and I don’t have a real good feeling about that. I don’t want anyone to have to work for a gift. That isn’t the way it should be set up.
And I think it was a stupid idea of mine to structure it that way.
There’s gotta be a better way! Any ideas?

Probably no “best” way. Giving is giving.
You could gather up all interested parties and draw two random names on Christmas Eve (assign each a # and roll some dice).

I like that idea, Bob, thanks. And looking through the “retrospectroscope”, I should have maybe asked the mods first and kept the whole damn thing anonymous.
This way it sounds like “look at me and what I’m doing!”
Sometimes I just don’t think straight, but I’d really like to “give back” a little of the kindness shown to us a few years ago.
Anonymous is the way to go. Just like those millionaires that gift thousands of dollars to some unsuspecting person, scale it down to me, and make me keep my damn mouth shut when I do something like this.
