Deauthorizing an iPod without the iPod

It just occurred to me that my iPod was amongst the items stolen from my ministorage unit a couple months ago, and I thought, "Hmm, I suppose I should deauthorize it.

Except I can’t find any way to do this from within iTunes. Is there a way to do it? Is it even necessary to do it?

Mac OS X Lion (10.7.4), iTunes 10.6.1

No need. You can have unlimited iPods and iDevices on your account. Only computers are restricted to 5.

Thanks!

So the follow-on question: suppose it was his laptop that was stolen.

Easiest way it to just deauthorize all computers on your Apple ID, then reauthorize any current computers.

[li]Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.[/li][li]If you’re not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.[/li][li]Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.[/li][li]In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.[/li][/ol]

There is an option in the Account Settings to deauthorize all computers attached to the account. So I guess I do that, and then re-authorize the computers I still have. Which I’ll be doing, since there were two computers also stolen — one a non-functional old Mac G4, and the other a Windows PC. According to my iTunes account, I have four authorized computers. Since my only computers now are my iMac and my Windows 7 laptop, I need to do some deauthorizing.
