That is a reaction I frequently share when reading December’s nonsense, often based on “sources” that even a filfhty sewer rat ought to think twice about citing. I find December’s dishonest tactics quite repulsive, especially on a forum such as this. In my opinion December is not an utter idiot, he just plays one on these boards.
It’s the only possible explanation to account for the idiotic content he usually posts, his legendary selective reading (and confirmation bias), his veiled prejudices, and his classic decembrist replies, the ones that dance all over the place and run over with allusions but that often accomplish nothing of substance. December is, quite simply, a troll who has discovered that by trolling in accordance to certain guidelines he gets to troll and spread political crap in a forum where it may very well be taken seriously and in good faith by some of the more uninformed members. He’s recruiting and proselytizing for the ranks of the ignorant, wilful and non. I don’t think he’s very successful, because you would have to be thoroughly ignorant to take his crap at face value, but that is not to say he is harmless.
I really don’t want to bring in the whole conservative/liberal bitch-fight. There will always be idiots on both sides, however I am hard pressed to think of a worse offender in terms of fighting ignorance than December, the Prince of Lies. And, by extension, his supporters.
Now, to embark on the rest of that Pit holiday:
Scylla, I enjoy reading some of your posts – not all of them, but the ones where you give a straight answer and do not attempt to equivocate every point you disagree with but can’t find a direct objection to. Shorter, clearer, more direct posts with a clear thesis would be much appreciated, rather than long, winding, equivocatory sophistry or similar arguments, often seeming to appear as a defence of the indefensible.

Shodan, regardless of whether he was banned for a while, no one in the last months (or years) has done more to fight ignorance than Collounsbury as far as the Middle East and related topics are concerned, and if you think otherwise in the face of the tousands of words of evidence he has contributed, let’s see some real arguments instead of your snide remarks. My two cents-- I’m a liberal. I even voted for Dukakis and am proud of it. But I like december. Sure, I disagree with a lot of what he posts but doggone it, opposing points of view don’t bother me. Sure, the post about liberals not caring about world history was a bit goofy, but so what? He’s always polite and well mannered, unlike the formerly banned OP in this thread. I enjoy reading december’s posts, heck I even miss Chumpsky. If you don’t think a thread is worthy, then don’t read it.
I won’t re-hash that entire debate here. I certainly agree that it wasn’t a liberal vs. conservative debate. But, what you call “bullshit” is mostly a cite that you didn’t like, but couldn’t refute.
The points I made were supported by the cite and its writer’s POV. You didn’t believe the writer of the cite. That’s your privilege. For all we know, he may have been lying or exaggerating. OTOH, for all we know, he may have been totally accurate. No independent report of the incident was ever located. For you to disbelieve the report is your privilege, but you have no evidence at all that it’s bullshit.

Consider two examples. The thread that gave rise to this Pit thread was based on quotes from two liberal bloggers. My recent thread about the UN cafeteria looting was based on Time Magazine as a source. I think some posters consider criticism of the UN or Mehgrebs or liberals to be taboo.

But for some reason on this board you seem quite happy to make very offensive posts, usually attacking things that are quite dear to some people, on the very thinnest of grounds.
A lot of the things you write really are quite reprehensible. You accuse the EU of deliberately funding terrorists. You accuse the french of institutional racism. Your various threads on the war accused many different groups of effectively causing troop fatalities. All without any actual grounds.
December, I would ask you to reread some of your posts, and honestly consider just how merited they were, or how offensive they were. Imagine if I’d made similar posts about Israel funding terrorism, about America being institutionally racist…can you see how if I did this on a regular basis you’d start to become angry?
