While Chumpsky is nowhere near december in sheer thread-starting numbers, he’s got december beat in a variety of other unpalatable habits, like plagiarism, intellectual theft, and unprovoked flaming. As least D doesn’t steal other people’s work and is relatively polite.
However, I suspect we won’t have the Chumpster to kick around anymore.
Still, 43 threads in 60 days? That’s ridiculous. I don’t think I’ve started half that many GD threads in three YEARS.
You know, two or three months ago I was starting to think that maybe december had snapped out of it. He wasn’t starting pointless threads with the same febrile aggressiveness, and he actually put some thought into engaging others in meaningful discussion. Was I hallucinating, or was december actually coming across as rational?
Now, sadly, he’s back to his old tricks, and worse than ever, to judge by the spectactuarly inane thread on feminism vs. Islam — as futile and dense as ever. I guess he went through an anomalous lucid spell. Maybe we could have a glimmer of hope to encourage this side of him to peek out from under the mountains of rubbish he fills his head with.
Perhaps December starts so many threads because he feels like he has to hold up the fort for his side? If you added up all the threads with a partisan left slant, and all the ones with a right-wing slant, I think you’d find there’s a similar number.
But half the ones on the right are started by December. He’s a one man playing field leveller.
Uhmm, I am not sure I agree with that statement. As a somewhat unbiased European I can certainly see quite a few leftie OPs that do not contain any actual information either. One easy way to do this is to search for threads with GWB in the topic. Quite a few of those are just rants about how stupid Bush is and how wrong he is on a certain topic.
I for one find December´s posts interesting at times and I admire him for keeping up the fight despite the opposition he is faced with at times.
I am sure this is true for both sides in a lot of (perhaps most) debates on this board.
IIRC he was given a warning by the mods in one of the pit threads.
I often just avoid him and ignore his threads. I still remember some of the first few times I locked horns with december. In one thread he vehemently defended for some days that Al Qaeda prisoners were to be considered prisoners of war and gave all sorts of reasons for it. Then the government and the president came out and said that Al Qaeda prisoners would not be afforded the status of POW and, instantly, december changed his tune. His only justification was pretty much along the lines of “I trust the president knows what’s best”. How can you argue with that?
december is totally lacking is reasoning ability. He believes things on pure faith and he is just witnessing. There is no point in trying to reason with him.
So how do you explain the fact that he defended a certain position because he thought that is what the government would do and when the government does the opposite, he changes his mind and defends the government’s position? I think trying to reason with someone like that is a total waste of time as the only way he will change his mind is if the government does.
There have been other examples where you can see he is just pigheaded and immune to any kind of evidence. The one where he claimed the Cuban government forced children into prostitution comes to mind. In spaite of the entire board telling him it made no sense, he just would not budge one inch. He is absolutely fanatical in his beliefs and I have never found he has learnt anything. He just preaches and witnesses like any other fanatic and no amount of evidence or reason will make him budge one inch.
I agree that it takes two sides to have a conversation and that it’s great to have so many more-or-less reasonable people around these parts. And I especially like the fundies… it’s great to see how these people think without being trapped in a room with them physically.
I disagree that december makes good points, though as has been pointed out, he has some posts that are reasonably fair. Most of his points are unreasoning parrotings of Rush or his odious ilk.
Which leads me to also challenge the unsupported claim that lots of people agree with him. I think lots of people are truly right, but I suspect that the only people who really agree with the straight-ahead propaganda are already calling in to the idiot-right talk shows.
december makes me laugh. He talks so much about his wife and his cousin’s black wife that I feel like I know him personally. Plus, we live in the same state, not that far from each other (his wife actually works up the street from me…I bet she and I know some of the same people…if we know each other, it wouldn’t be a shocker). I like thinking that every white man on the street that I see is december. I think if I actually knew the guy in real life, he would be my friend. The kind of friend that you talk about behind his back, but a friend that you invite to lunch nontheless.
(I always find myself defending him in these Pit threads, and yet debating him in his own threads. How strange is that?)
I’m not sure…I’d have to do some research…but this may be the single most idiotically partisan statement ever made in the history of the internet.
C’mon Twist, tell me you mispoke. We’ve talked on other topics and I’m having trouble believing that you meant this the way it came out.
Are you honestly claiming that some of the morons on the SDMB who channel democrats.com* and regurgitate whatever the headline is, or when Chas E. claiming that George W. Bush had a mind-control accent, or when Chronolicht was claiming that anyone who’d ever owned a gun secretly wanted to murder infants, etc are somehow possessed of “more actual information” than whatever December’s current drivel is?
There are idiots on both sides of the fence.
