What possible pleasure could a person get from continual partisan ranting and agitation?
I mean, assuming the person is mature enough to not just need attention, then there has to be a point, doesn’t there?
It’s clear no one will be convinced by the “arguments” that december puts forward. So it’s just preaching to the converted and antagonizing the opposition, right?
My pet theory is that december is a GOP political operative who is responsible for testing the adequacy of the BS the GOP wants to use in more prominent fora than the SDMB.
If the inevitable rebuttals are too complicated or lengthy, then they figure the average SOB US voter will buy their point and not listen to the counter-argument. If the rebuttal is too intense or too short and obvious, they don’t use that one too often.
Say, is there a most-pitted poster award? And is decemberthe current front runner?
I don’t know, his Loaded Question threads in GD used to bug me, but the premises are so easy to refute that I find it hard to get too worked up about it anymore. As someone said in a previous Pit thread concerning this poster, I look at it as practice for real debate.
JohnT: Is there any lefty you can point to that is as relentless, repetitive, and predictable as december? I am certainly a lefty, somewhat predictable…but I don’t start a new thread every day beating the left wing drum, as december does with the right-wing, Bush-promoting band that he’s been leading for many, many months on end.
I just put the hampsters to work, and here’s what I learned:
In the past 60 days alone, which were in no particular way unusual, december started 43 threads in Great Debates. That’s a thread every 33 hours. Now, for silly, wide-ranging, and lightweight areas like MPSIMS, that’s not such a big deal maybe. But for Great Debates? That’s unbelievable.
I had people all over my ass for starting something like 14 threads over the 2000 election, which averaged about 2 threads a week, and that that was way out of character for me. This is december’s lifestyle week in and week out. I cannot think of a lefty that comes close.
But on a more serious note, I don’t even think of december as a rightist… and I think anyone seriously right wouldn’t either. As much as I personally disagree with most conservative views, I acknowledge that it’s possible to have considered conservative opinions.
december, on the other hand, seems to have no opinions at all, just GOP talking points and empty rhetoric
Sure. You claimed he engages in “continual partisan ranting and agitation” and additionally that “*t’s clear no one will be convinced by [his] arguments”. Those are both assertions of fact.
December makes good points. We need both sides. I even like those nut case fundies. I like the communists ---- sorry, I mean liberals. I even like the people who trash me.
Right on BeatenMan, I tend to disagree on most of the issues presented by him, but I’m really glad he’s here. Great Debates would just suck if we all agreed and we didn’t have viewpoints that represent a lot of people (and there are a lot of people who’d agree with December’ viewpoints {and no, i don’t have a cite for that, but I think that it’s a pretty obvious statement}).I’d like to thank December for being a part of this board. Thanks.
I don’t think december has been pitted in a couple days. December is like that ringing in your ears - you will get used to it, or go mad, completely mad.
That sounds about right. Thanks for not bumping all of them.
