Decision '08: Could New York turn red?

That doesn’t explain the Post. It was widely reported a few years ago that Murdoch had had something of a rapprochement with the Clintons, and what he feels about Obama is probably going to remain a mystery. He runs some tabloid newspapers and a borderline tabloid news station. If his editorial people hate the President, it’s not a bad thing for business.

Rasmussen released new New York numbers yesterday. Obama, 55-42.

I think NY is safe.

Murdoch sometimes might push his agenda through the press, but the bottom line is money. Conservative news sells. Fox is the number one news network. It will stay conservative until that stops being a good business model, not when Murdoch changes his political views.

The Sun is a broadsheet. Granted, it’s a right-leaning broadsheet - but it’s not a tabloid. It’s only about 24 pages long, has no entertainment section and no model photos or gossip. If rumors are true, the investors have pulled out and publication will cease at the end of the month.

You know, a crisp fall weekend or two doorknocking in New Hampshire (or even New Jersey, in which the polls have tightened a bit) might be just the thing!

But New York State? C’mon. It’s about as in the bag for Obama as it possibly can be.

New York voted for Regan and Bush in the 80s

McCain will get a better turnout in New York than Giuliani would.

Would you care to explain this line of reasoning? He’s not going to come close to winning in any case.

No he’s not, but Giuliani is positively loathed by many New Yorkers. Very few think of him as America’s Mayor who stood up to the task on 9/11. To a large degree many people see his incompetence as being responsible for a greater number of rescue worker deaths on 9/11.

For those that live in New York City. They remember his crusades against hot dog vendors, taxis, and ferrets. We also remember that ‘Giuliani Time’, is a euphemism for police brutality.

I live in New York City. I don’t see how that gets McCain better turnout, though. While Giuliani is very unpopular, his social views (the same ones that helped sink him in the primaries) are much more in line with most New Yorkers’ than McCain’s are.

I agree.

Where Rudy would have gotten maybe 30% of the vote, I think McCain will probably get 35%. Obama will win all of the New England states.

Maybe. I think that Giuliani’s ill will in NYC would be a factor. Of course I don’t think McCain is going to win.
