Definition of Post-Padding and Post Count Parties

This is an excerpt from SkipMagic’s sticky on rules for MPSIMS:

“Even this forum … has its limits for truly pointless threads. We will be closing threads which cross that line, or exist merely for post-padding reasons. This includes any post count parties.”

What does this mean?

I want to know, too!

Me

Well

Trying to hit 30,000 posts by the weekend!

Let’s see if we can keep this thread going longer than the oldest thread evar!

I got lucky not to get sniped in the middle as happened to you.

I’m not sure what all the examples would be, but one type I’ve seen locked is “yay this is my 10,000th post!” or whatever.

I think it’s a bit subjective since I’ve accumulated ~65,000 posts without saying anything meaningful ever.

64,792.
Not close enough to go waltzing Ma Tilde.

“Post-padding” refers to posts made exclusively for the reason of increasing your post count. See some examples in this thread generously provided by some of our more hilarious members.

“Post-count parties” are threads started to celebrate reaching a particular post number, such as “Hooray, this is my 1,000th post!”

Post-padding and post count parties have become much less common since the early days of the board, when everyone had a relatively low post count and post counts were visible for everyone. Now that post counts are hidden for Guests and the most prolific posters have post counts in the high 10,000s, there is less incentive to post just to boost one’s count.

Since this thread will undoubtedly be used by posters to further illustrate how to break the rule, I’m going to close this.
