I asked about it in the thread on ATMB. I hope it’s temporary. It’s weird though, others are still showing as Charter Members.
from 1962 to 1966
I’m curious if my Charter Member status will go away after I post this. It sorta looks like that might be sump’n that’s happenin’ right now. We shall see…
ETA: Nope still a charter member.
Well, when I can get here, it’s nice. I like what they’ve done to the place.
It’s hotter than f**ck here right now. Tis a storm a-brewin’, but only a smattering of not even wet enough to call it rain. I never heard back from work (HR) re that job today. Hmmm.
Dinner is done–cold baked ham, sweet potato biscuits and green beans. Why, yes, I do have some Southern in me.
Not much to add. So much for fun exciting move in stories. No roommates from hell? No hot pots on fire? We’re a tame lot.
That doesn’t make you special, bear!
I’m special just because I’m da bear.
rigs sweet N.O.T. biscuits. NUM! Now, of course, I want some. Guess I’ll just have to make me some soon. Plus bake a ham, cause well, one must have ham and sweet N.O.T. biscuits together.
How fun to read everyone’s stories! Yours sounded scariest, Muffin.
Hmmm, I never lived in a dorm either. And I’ve apparently blocked out most of my move-in experiences, except for when we moved into this house. A couple of things stand out about that move:
- It was a VERY hot summer. Our old place didn’t have air conditioning and this house does (YAY!!!). I spent one night on the floor here before the furniture moved because my room at the old place was in the attic where it was extra hot.
My roommate at the time (now known as Local Best Friend), her boyfriend, my brother and I spent the week before the move removing wallpaper in the living room and dining room and then painting both those rooms as well as the two bedrooms. (The third “bedroom” (AKA smallest bedroom EVAR) is the office and we didn’t bother painting it.)
And now that I’m thinking about it, what stands out most about previous moves is the sleeper sofa. It was one of those heavy ones that are NO FUN AT ALL to move. I bought a drill and screwdriver bits so that I could take it apart for moving. Had to do that twice before it bit the dust. (Actually, I sold it in our moving sale before moving here.) I miss that sofa. It was the most comfortable sofa to stretch out on. And it was actually pretty comfortable as a bed, too.
Work was not terribly traumatic. I have a big meeting tomorrow that I’m not completely prepared for. But I’ll get there.
In the meantime, nice to see everyone here at the new place. Hopefully they’ll get everything stabilized soon.
Hugs.

I think I recall some weirdness with the boards right about the first time we had to renew, and a bunch of us had to have our status re-set manually. Those that didn’t get re-set looks like are members, and those that were done manually stayed Charter.
And, even though it looked like it didn’t go through, it did. So I had a double post. Which I’ve now gotten rid of.
Okay, I’ve been having problems on and off with lag, so don’t know if this will even get to post.
I must say that as much as I enjoyed Rig’s original MMP, I like her TMP even better! I can’t remember much of my first year in college (LOL yes, much partying was had that year … I think!), but I do recall my parents driving me there and helping me to set up my room. My room mate was already there–she was a sophmore, but very shy. My dorm was one of the “good” female dorms - hey, it was 1970, no coed dorms yet - and we had a midnight curfew weeknights. Had a lot of fun, but must admit to being really homesick the first month or so. And classes - ye gods, what a difference from HS! LOL Ah, the memories!
It’s definitely more humid today. Is it Firday yet? Wonder where Haze is?! And where is kaiwik, with her say on the Palin selection?! Inquiring minds!
Howdy everybody. I don’t remember my dorm moving experience. I barely remember yesterdays’ brunch(Egg Foo Breakfast).
I’ll write up the ever-enthralling tale of my rather abrupt move to Singapore later, possibly during lunch. But for now, I thought I’d say, cos it bears saying…
I’M BACK KIDS!!!
ROWR!!!
Oh. I wasn’t even born yet.
Whoa!!! Talk about a blast from the past. Next thing you know we’ll see Mr. DeDay himself stopping by.
I was hoping we’d hear from kai, too, tarra.
I should be asleep already. I have to get up early to finish prepping for my meeting.

And Meeks…
ok, so I don’t have any amazing moving away to Uni stories, mostly cos i lived at home with the 'rents until I was sent to Singapore for work and even then I didn’t really consider myself moved out until Mum-ra and Daddio decided to pack up all my crap and put it in Grandma’s garage (I figure they kinda had every right, seeing as how I’d been here for eight years already and was married and had a kid and a mortgage, so there may have been some inkling that I had, indeed, moved out of home at some point).
Anyways, my moving out story beginneth thus: I’d been working in a shitty job doing amazing creative work, but it was shitty cos I’d workecd every day straight for 6 months and a lot of those days were 15 hour days, or worse. I’d just done an amazing demo, on a sunday afternoon and helped win the company a major contract for a themepark in Korea (I’ve since seen the installation and yes, it is amazing!). So I gets to work on monday morning, all a grumble and awash with basic anger at STILL not having a day off. The boss told me to turn my ass around and go home, have a day off and rest when one of the admin folks said, ‘actually, go home and pack your bags, you’re on a flight to Singapore at 4pm and it’s now 9:45’.
So I ran, via the comic shop (gotta have yer priorities in order) home, packed my bags and made it to the airport with barely enough time for the 2 hour check-in limit thingy (you know that thingy they have, where you’re s’posed to check in early? Yeah, that thing). I’ve only been overseas a few times at this point, and this is my first trip alone. The rest of the production crew is already over there, and I’m needed to bring new code for the control systems (this was before wide acceptance of the webbernets). I land in Singapore and I’m met by one of the crew, shuttled off to an island south of the main island and pointed at a bed.
The next day I wake up laaaaaaate (i was so overdue a good sleep-in I wasn’t waking up on-cue anymore). The boss/owner of the company lunges over me and says, ‘ok, you have a day off! Go use it!’. And I’m left to my own devices in a country I’ve never been to, haven’t researched properly and don’t know how to move around in.
I learnt how to use the funny ticketing system for the MRT that day, I walked about 15km, I learnt that the MRT and the Train are different things (‘the train’ goes to Malaysia, the MRT is the local suburban rail-system) and I re-discovered MOS burger (yes, Swampy, MOS burger really is that good!).
and here I am, still in Singapore, almost thirteen years later.
ok, so it wasn’t so drama-drama, but it was kinda scary having to navigate in a new country, all alone… kinda sorta…
I’ve never lived in a dorm. And I don’t think I’ve missed out on anything I’d want to experience!
It’s been so long I don’t remember you, dangergene, but WELCOME BACK!!!
::glares over bifocals at soapy::*
*no, I don’t wear bifocals, . . . yet, it just seemed like an appropriate thing to glare over
So, give us an update on what you’re doing, gene. Last thing I think I remember you were in a new job and weren’t going to be able to post from work…(am I even close?)
I’m still awake.
This is not good. I was sleepy for a few minutes there, but that seems to have passed.

Morning all. Never lived in a dorm. Interesting to note however that FCM went off to Navy training the day I should have been born (8 days before I was actually born). Gee - that makes me almost feel like a spring chicken!
