Delightfully trashy Susan Tyrrell, 1945 - 2012

Oddly, TCM is showing Fat City tonight, but nothing takes precedence over Drag U in my house.

What an incredible actress. The queen of cult films. You forgot to mention her roles in the Forbidden Zone and Tapeheads. This is a loss for the world of offbeat art.

What a coincidence. We just showed the kids *Wizards *over the weekend. What a great voice she had!

BTW, Susan Tyrrell ended up being the answer to this question that was posed some years ago (noted further downstream in the thread).

Wow.

I just watched Forbidden Zone a couple weeks ago based on the, umm, “recommendation” made about it in a recent thread. (I really gotta stop deliberately watching bad movies. Maybe next year.)

Loved her in “forbidden Planet”, but that movie isn’t for everyone.

Oh man, she was wonderful.

I loved her in Cry Baby: “When I see you all gussied up like trash… I just think how proud your parents would have been.”

She even managed to make an episode of Wings funny as Sal, a disgusting fisherwoman who agrees to marry Antonio (Tony Shalhoub) to give him resident alien status. In one scene she casually slaps something on her shoulder and says “Hey little feller, I ain’t the Holiday Inn!”- it’s not the line, but the way she said it that was hysterical.

Sad last few years; I hope her friends stayed by her.

Just finished watching it. She was incredible. Movies that are character studies of people in society’s underbelly usually aren’t my cuppa – they’re just too bleak. And boxing? Never met a boxing movie I liked.

I was this close to changing the channel a few minutes in when Stacy Keach ran into Alma in a bar in the middle of the day. She’s the reason I kept watching. She didn’t win the Oscar? She wuz robbed.

Her Wiki entry says she lost both legs due to a blood disease.

Wiki also notes: “Her last role was as a woman trapped in a hole in the woods in Nathan and David Zellner’s film Kid-Thing.”

I’m going to hell. My first thought was they didn’t have to dig the hole very deep.

She would have laughed, in a hysterical, maniacal manner.

That voice! That outfit! I played “Witches Egg” from Forbidden Zone over and over!

Wow. I’m not-watching TCM while I’m working, and they’re doing their year-end memorial montage. This is the first I’ve heard of her death. As big a Formidden Zone fan as I am, it’s strange that I didn’t hear of this six months ago.
